Bua of Siam is a small , corner located restaurant in downtown N. Portland. Parking was easy . Walking in, I was pleasantly impressed by the bright , open, seating area. There are approximately 20 tables scattered around the dining area. Service was prompt and very friendly. A definite high point for Bua of Siam. Unfortunately, the food I ordered was not up to other Thai food I've enjoyed at other Thai restaurants. The tofu pineapple 🍍 fried rice came out first. As it hit the table, I was surprised by the deep yellow color and the overpowering smell of curry. This was going to be a unique experience---- pineapple fried rice made with curry. Having traveled to Thailand extensively, I'm aware of regional preparations of food , varying greatly, although I've never had pineapple fried rice with curry. So, here we go.....let's try this version of pineapple fried rice. Immediately after the first bite, I was overwhelmed by curry flavor. The fried rice was drenched in a yellow curry sauce that totally obliterated any of the subtle flavors of the fried rice. Very disappointing 😞. A total waste 🗑. The chicken pad se ew was marginally better ,with plenty of broccoli and carrots , but also unimpressive. Again , disappointing. Handicap ♿️ doable. The best words I can say on this review about Bua of Siam is that the...
Read moreThis review is for takeout - I feel bamboozled and confused by the amount of good reviews here…. We are not picky eaters but found this to be inedible. I can’t remember the last time I couldn’t eat something I bought because of poor taste and quality. Pad Thai was over cooked and had a grey tint to it and strange burnt oil flavor from what seemed to be an unclean wok. Made my stomach turn :( Orange chicken and spring rolls were clearly frozen items from Costco or similar, they used pre made chicken nuggets and tossed in a gluey orange sauce and called it orange chicken. (I understand this isn’t a traditional Thai dish to order, but it was so bad it felt like a joke) Spring rolls were soggy and mushy inside, soooo clearly from a frozen bag. Chicken in both the pad Thai and the orange chicken had that “past its prime” old taste to it, almost freezer burnt tasting. Even the rice was wet and gluey!? Really a bummer to spend hard earned money on what should have been a treat to not even be able to eat it. Would like to support local businesses in Saint Johns, hopefully they can make some adjustments on the quality of...
Read moreI had recently moved to the area and this was one of my first restaurants. About two blocks from condo so an easy, lovely walk. The young woman that waited on me was so nice, huge smile, very welcoming. She guided me thru the menu and process, shared a bit about the town. I have been moving around a lot last 8 yrs settling here, and I have been looking for a good Thai. I found it in this restaurant.. It reminded me of a place I just loved, a decade ago. Warm, small business feel. I had the Pad Thai w/chicken and green curry w/tofu, both delish, both hitting the taste I was looking for. So, after all this time, I found my Thai restaurant. Thank you woman that served me, I...
