This was a first for me and as I am old and my path though long and twisted will probably not take me to Africa, so Latha is probably as close as I am likely to get. The collard greens were simply a revelation! Someone had foisted collard greens off on me many years ago and I had decided then that I hated them. I only got them this time because they were included with the meal. Well damn! They were amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever had anything like them! Now, I get the hype! Latham has converted me! The dirty rice was also great! Deeply flavorful and complex. The BBQ lamb was good, but somewhat dry. I would have liked a sauce of some kind, but did not see anything. It was tasty, but needed something to make it perfect. I took it home and used it in a stir fry and it was wonderful. Maybe I missed something, but no one offered and I didn’t see anything. But the best thing about Latham was the people who hung out in the shade and talked. It felt very much like a community and I felt welcomed. Old lost white man sitting at a table and I was made to feel like folks were glad I was there. They were proud of the food, and happy to have a visitor from a far off land. It was an education in the grace and diplomacy of food.

This was 20 dollars for about a cup of Egusi and a small ball of fufu. Still delicious I just wish there was a little more of it or more reasonably priced. Update: I ended up trying it again today. I sent my Boyfriend to pick it up(see below what I told him to order.) As you can see you when you buy it online it’s $31 but he charged him $41 for the exact same thing in person. I checked the website to see if the had raised their prices and they have not. He did give us a couple extra things so it’s fine. Just a little inconsistent. The man who works there is incredibly kind and awesome. So service is always a 10/10

Omg! I just returned from Tanzania after living there for four months and was looking for chipate, Kachumbari and Pilau. They weren’t serving pilau until the next day but everything else was good. I had the beef stew with cabbage, Kachumbari and chipate. Hit the spot and tasted so good!!! I also met the owner and his friends who are Kenyan and I felt like I was back home in Africa. Thanks for being so welcoming!!!! And thanks for the free samosas😉

Visiting from California to try all types of cuisines and was not expecting to find fufu. We have been trying to find a place in CA but haven't been able to find any and just by chance, we found this place. We ordered beef egusi, lamb BBQ, plantain fufu, collard greens and beef samosa with advice fun the owner. Samosa came out first and it was the best samosa I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and so much flavor! I am not usually a fan of lamb but this was DELICIOUS. And the egusi... Great flavor and perfect with the fufu. I can't wait to come back to Portland and come back to this place. The owner was so kind and friendly and was giving us advice what to get since we were clueless. We were not disappointed at all and we had to talk to the owner and give him our respect after eating our meal. This meal far exceeded our expectations, trying to find this type of food for a long time. We came to Portland and tried a lot of different cuisines we haven't tried before and this made the top of our list easily. Thank you for the amazing experience and the...

My kids are the PICKIEST eaters and they still loved many of the dishes here, I liked almost everything I tried and everything I didn't like I bet I would deeply enjoy, if a few things were tweaked a tiny bit.

I don't expect that at all though, everything we liked was so good I wish we could afford it everyday, my husband LOVED their chicken BBQ and I am a huge fan of their fufu's and so are my kids! Such a satisfying fun texture and so filling and pleasant to eat! Not under salted or without flavor either, each one is unique and I want to try every kind of fufu there is!

Anyone looking for a taste of their home, or a big departure from what you're used...
