I recommend going to any other Mio Sushi. Don't waste your time going to the Hawthorne location!
She then gets angry with me and demands to know why I would order something if I can't eat it. I tell her I've never seen it prepared that way so how would I know I couldn't eat it?
At that point I just asked her to run my card bc I wanted to be leaving. I didn't feel like waiting for my appetizer. I'm not going to tolerate rude behavior and demands bc I'm not psychic. Their menu didn't alert me that the nigiri I ordered could be prepared differently then what...
Read moreMio Sushi is a weird vibe to walk into. It's definitely a chain, but it's really cluttered like it's someone's small family biz.
I went in and it was slow, with only 2 other tables present. I was served really quickly. I ordered the yakitori and two rolls.
The food is pretty bad, unfortunately. I had the shrimp tempura roll and a roll with eel in it (can't remember exact name). The eel was slimy and both rolls were covered in a "sweet sauce" which was maybe what was making all of it taste kind of "funky."
I never received the yakitori, which was fine, because by the time I was done with the rolls, I wasn't really eager to stick around based on how bad the sushi was.

But it seems usually there's the Asian-style scoop spoon a lot of places bring you... The sushi is good and there are a quite few good veggie options. Nothing too crazy or innovative, but solid nonetheless. Happy hour deals on rolls could be better, but you may find more options if you actually eat fish, so my review may not apply to the...
