BAR fight! Yur's vs Joe's Cellar Round 2 So here we are round 2: Prices, Menu, Service and Yur's is just pounding Joe's on the ropes. If you recall in round 1 Joe's Cellar won points on food deliciousness, and atmosphere but Yur's hung tight with more than adequate dive bar darkness (total lack of outside light in fact) and oldness predating the existence of a pearl district. Joe's Cellar is circa 1940's, tough to beat. Ok so here we go: Joe's Cellar starts off with a slight advantage and then Yur's starts landing heavy blows.
Prices: Joe's is a locals place. If you stick around and order 5 coor's lights you may only pay for 4 which is highly cool. You make it up in the tip and pay the server accordingly but you feel accepted. It's a win for Joe's. You always pay full pearl prices at Yur's far as I can tell. That's fine. They are just steps from the pearl so they do as in Rome and who can blame them, but 1 point to Joe's. Menu: make no mistake both Joe's Cellar and Yur's serve good plates. Joe's specializes in late day breakfasts. Pancakes Omelettes, Corned Beef Hash, all good. Yur''s however, matches Joe's, and brings the daily specials front and center with good signage to show you sandwich of the day etc. This shows the kitchen is active and willing. 1 pt to Yurs. Service: Yur's. 2 points because each Yur's person has been unfailingly positive, enthusiastic and kind. Joe's service is your mom if you are a super regular but I have coming in their off and on since Tom Brady's first super bowl and they still couldn't be bothered to learn my name. I respect day drinkers but I cant just hang out to be a cool kid. Love you Joe's but sorry. Yur's however staffs pro servers who smooth out the differences between hard drinking regulars and semi regulars or pop-ins seeking a friendly dive vibe. Joe's Cellar still serves a purpose and is a noble institution holding up tradition in a changed world. But Yur's for the win: service, ...
Read moreFor the most part it's generally a clean atmosphere though before I noticed they went from being very careful and protecting every customer that used a machine or said at the table whereas now to get a clean table isn't always a for sure I can easily walk up to a machine and use it without getting it sanitized so that to me is a little bothersome . The bartenders seem very nice and helpful the food is okay I highly recommend the french fries but that's about all I can offer. The parking can be a little difficult being that it's on a road where there's a tent taking up part of the parking area for their customers to sit outside and and have the drinks and conversation you'll have to mostly Park either in a handicap zone area that's provided or have two or three other choices if nobody's parked there otherwise on the sides of the building will be parking but they are one ways or they are already taken up by residents that live there in the area I can't promise necessarily that it's a safe area to park because there is a lot of questionable areas that are overwhelmingly populated by tents and trash I will also mention that there has been several times that I have been walking down towards the front entrance and noticed that there is glass from somebody's car right beside the parking curve so that shows me that maybe there was a lot of car theft break-ins so you might just be careful with in your vehicles before you enter that is not your fault that's just the city and their...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for over 10 years. Allison P. provides the worst service I’ve ever received! On a slow weekend morning, with few people in the bar and she doesn’t acknowledge you’re there, wanders aimlessly for 5 minutes, forgets what she’s doing and has to ask again what you ordered. That happened on several occasions. This weekend, after being her for 2 hours and several orders, she rudely comes up to me and asks for my ID. I ask why since she’s been “serving me and I’ve been here for a while” and she rudely just says she needs to see it for me to be in here (I’m 40yo with my 80yo MIL) I give her my ID and proceed to inform her that her customer service is not good. She gets mad and walks away. About ten minutes later a security guard comes up to me to tell me I have to leave. The security guard, Cole, was very professional and we had a good conversation while I finished. This bartender is new and Yur’s needs to be better about vetting their new hires and training them as this experience was far below what I’ve ever received here. Calling security because the bar tender was rude and I mentioned it is insane and you’ve lost a loyal customer of over a decade. *After Yur’s response below: you mention inappropriate behavior/language which was not used or exhibited. Your bartender got mad because I informed her that her service was sub par. I’ve already spoken with many other regulars who share the...
