CAUTION! Must prepay before any fitting and not guaranteed if fittings don’t leave you 100%satisfied. I wear suits everyday for work with bespoke suits the last 15 years. I wasn’t getting a suit for a special event that I might wear once or twice a year. Started the “fitting” process in November. Paid upfront almost 4K for three made to measure suits. There really isn’t much measuring going on when getting fitted. Ben takes on off the rack suit and then eyeballs adjustments and hopes it works. Scheduling and communication is horrible with last minute cancellations and booking far out for next appointment. After several months and fittings I took suits home and each suit was a different size. When I requested to fix Ben agreed several points of the suit didn’t fit correctly after pointing them out despite his “professional” eye in the previous fitting saying the suit looks great and took a pic to brag internally. Ben is a nice guy, but I want a suit that fits me and the price I pay. The problem with made to measure is if you correct one part of the suit it creates another because they never measured your fit in the first place. I asked for a refund and was told the manager would contact me. That took several weeks despite being told next day. So I just disputed charge with credit card. company. Now I’m left with no suits and they kept my 4K with complete lack of communication.

Lance, previous employee told me $3,500. I wasn’t in a big need, so I waited. Ben said they could not honor previous price after discussion with manager. I reluctantly agreed to $3,850 for same request.
I took suit home and it needed many alterations after actually wearing it and moving around. Ben did not catch flaws until I pointed them out. Ben agreed many alterations were needed
Second and third suit didn’t even match first suit sizing. Major consistency flaw from one suit to next. Ben was shocked and said he’d complain to manufacturers.
Dishonestly told credit card company suits fit despite agreeing all suits need to be remade from scratch
Ben rescheduled: one time said he was puking in his car. Next time death in family. Other time he double booked.
How are my current suits being made in another country even relevant? It’s not like Hall Madden suits are made in the USA. I wanted the new suits to fit correctly when BOTH standing in front of mirror in the shop and when actually moving around, which I didn’t notice until I took home. That’s common sense and Ben agreed he missed many basic correctly fitted suit points. That’s why I want the refund. You don’t know what you are doing.
Manager took weeks to contact, so I sent them personally my review of my experience. Then he contacted only AFTER. One voicemail and then never contacted again.
I don’t want to remake. I’d like a refund. If you can offer to remake then a refund shouldn’t be a problem for a honest retailer that claims 100% satisfaction guaranteed. You issued refund to another customer as I can read in reviews for wrong fit and such a long time. Unfortunately it took you more than a year to refund only after a negative review. Why would I pick up suits that don’t fit and aren’t even same size...
Read moreIt was a pleasure working with Ben, the showroom director, on crafting a beautiful made-to-measure suit. It is about as close that custom MTM suiting can get without going true bespoke. Ben has a fantastic eye for detail, truly sartorial styling recommendations and above all, pursues the perfect fit and drape. He was patient with me as I am a lot pickier and meticulous than most in my design choices but in the end, after a 10 week process from the very start, delivered a beautiful classic English style double-breasted suit in Holland & Sherry’s Airesco high-twist fresco worsted wool fabric. I have a pretty average build and wanted to really challenge Ben and Hall Madden’s capabilities with a unique 6x2 DB with wide lapels and cuffed trousers. After two initial measurements and design appointments, upon first fitting of my newly delivered suit, Ben nailed the fit 95% there. Soft shoulders, lapel roll, button placement, trouser rise, break and a drape cut that truly embodies Savile Row tailoring were all on point. Ben then sent the suit to a local Portland European alterations tailor to do the final 5% fine tuning – mostly sleeves. A week later, the final fitting turned out near perfect. The finishing on the suit is of high quality and after several wears the full canvas construction really conformed to my body and allowed it to drape even better. I also had a twill broadcloth double cuff MTM shirt made which was done wonderfully. I definitely plan to return to have more suits and sport coats made, and perhaps even my black-tie wedding tux. That being said, it is not cheap. The starting prices are actually very reasonable for this level of suiting, but prices quickly increase depending on the cut-length fabric you choose. They carry mostly the full line of bunch books from Loro Piana, Drago and Holland & Sherry, as well as a wide selection of house fabrics at a cheaper price point. I would say Hall Madden’s general house style is more Neapolitan cut tailoring. Overall, I believe the value is one of the best in Portland for MTM high end suiting. I do hope they will add a wider selection of fabric mills in the future – such as Fox Brothers, Huddersfield, Scabal, Dormeuil and Vitale Barberis Canonico. Ben is also a one man show at the showroom, so communication can be slow and appointment availability slim at times. However, in the end he is extremely professional, listens to your requests and is incredible to work with and it shows in the delivered product. He could really use an assistant at the shop! Already looking forward to...
Read moreFirst I want to say that the suit, once everything was wrapped up and finished WAS very nice. This review however deals directly with service and problems that occurred while working with them, specifically a refund on a shirt that was never received and the multiple attempts I've made in trying to get the refund. The day the suit arrived the 150.00 shirt that was included was far too small, it was a tight time crunch and so my option was only to purchase a separate shirt from another retailer and Hall Madden would have another shirt made that I would receive some time later.
When I returned to have a taylor repair done (details below) I was told that it would be easier to issue a refund for the cost of the shirt, to which I was ok with though I really would have liked to have gotten the shirt. It's now been a year and a half and still no refund after multiple communications via email to staff here in Portland as well as emails to their East Coast side. I simply do not understand how they would give up a customer who purchased a 2000.00 dollar suit over a $150.00 refund.
I should also note that the suit did have a malfunction the day of use, the inside liner was not sewn correctly and completely separated on one side during the wedding. The loose piece was hidden luckily, and the shop fixed it immediately which I greatly appreciated. In general the service and suit were good, but I will never recommend a business that doesn't stick to their word and honor a refund on an item...
