My wife, adult daughter (chef), and I had a terrible experience at this restaurant this evening. The clam chowder was good. Both my wife and daughter ordered a bowl and enjoyed it. The bao was also pretty good. However, I ordered the fish sandwich. After a few bites I could smell ammonia - a tell tale sign that fish has gone bad. I talked to the server who brought the plate to the chef. The server came back and told us the chef said the fish came in fresh this morning. The chef obviously is not well versed in customer service not food safety. The crab cakes also had an off taste and my daughter would not eat them. After offering us a free dessert (we declined), I paid the check (in its entirety... yes, I paid for spoiled fish. I did leave a generous gratuity as this issue had nothing to do with our server, who was very pleasant). As I write this review with a very upset stomach, please do not eat here. If you do chose to eat in this restaurant, please dine carefully and inspect your meals. Restaurants are rarely lacking in food safety in one area. If they don't have a safety mindset, it will be pervasive. I may call the health inspector since I...
Read moreFor hotel accommodations not bad. As a restaurant, in general, there still needs to be work done. Myself and a couple locals lost our traditional breakfast spot to the local economic conditions and we've been searching for a replacement.
We want a place that serves a sit down meal on a plate and that is open at 7:00 am. That's a hard get in Portsmouth. Especially the open at 7:00. Two-Fifty covers those bases. The downside is the food quality and the cost. The food is your typical Sysco foods fare that focuses on the least expensive, partially prepared food instead of quality raw food sourced locally. If the prices were lower or the food quality higher, this would be a gem.
The wait staff are very attentive and professional. The restaurant is clean and the view is great looking out over the river. The only gripe is food quality for cost. If they could work on that, this would be much more than just a convenience for hotel guests.
The last few weeks we've gone, there have only been a few others that stop for breakfast. Mostly hotel guests, of course. But this place could be filled up, at least on the weekends, with just...
Read moreThis is not a gastro pub. It’s a cafe within the Sheraton hotel. Not exactly what you think when you read about it. There is no parking unless you want valet for $35 so expect that. The food is what you expect from a cafe at a hotel. It could be a little more closed off to give it a cozier feel. The hotel lobby is right in the same place so you don’t have that intimate feeling of a restaurant at all and people just walk all over the place in there which gives it a feel like it’s a way station or passage way to something else. It’s a good thing we had other options...
