Isla Bonita — Restaurant in Poulsbo

Tucked away in the corner along the busy route to Poulsbo, this spot it can be easy miss. I am sure glad my family found them because everything was great. The parking lot does not do the inside justice. There is a separate front entrance for the bar, so once we stepped inside the dining area our eyes feasted on the bright oasis of island colors. Our server asked if we wanted a table or booth, then seated us immediately at a clean booth. The place was fairly busy but we got water glasses and nice heaping bowl of chips, salsa and refried beans. The salsa was prefect, it was nicely seasoned and stayed on the warm and thick tortilla chips. It took us a few minutes to read and review the many selections on the menu. Once we ordered it took maybe 15 minutes for our food to arrive and our server asked if we wanted anything else to drink while refilling our waters. The food was piping hot, loaded with lots of fresh veggies, sauces, and cheeses. It was nicely spiced and not at all salty. I was hungry because I skipped lunch and barely finished my big plate. The rest of my family ate a little over half of their generous portions of food. The prices were about what you expect with everything going up these days, a little over $20 per plate but you definitely get your money's worth. I would definitely recommend and visit again. We were traveling thru. So glad we pulled into their parking lot for lunch! Had combination plate which was around $15 each. Yep, husband says “ we just can’t afford to eat out anymore.” Umm, then we got our plates! Oh, my! Sorry I didn’t take a picture. I wasn’t expecting to write a review. I have almost stopped ordering Chile Relleno because they are greasy, spongy, cakey, or tasteless. Boy, oh boy! NOT THESE. I dunno what they do but they are so good! And it was a dinner plate sized Chile! We also had the tostado on our plates. It was huge and topped with meat, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese. Frankly, that’s all I could eat at that one sitting! My Relleno came home with me for a second excellent meal, as well as ultra creamy refried beans and some really fresh Spanish rice. Before our meals we received chips, 2 salsas and beans were delivered to our table. Couldn’t eat them all either. I wanted to. They came home for another absolutely delicious meal. We’ve now had 6 meals out of 2 and each was wonderful. Too bad we don’t live close— we would be treating ourselves to eating out. Considering what we got, the pricing was good. TERRIBLE service. I've been here a few times and the service was always ok food is actually really good but came here tonight with my husband and two kids. Roberto was our service. We waited a very long time before even being greeted. Asked to have a margarita and water for my husband and I and apple juice mixed with water for the kids. The margarita tasted like a cheap bottled mix, didn't get water for us, and the apple juice was just apple juice, not a big deal but when we asked for our waters he brought out two little kids waters instead of for ourselves so we just mixed the juice and water ourselves and had to ask for water for us which we didn't get until the end. my order was messed up and he didn't come to check on us for at least 30 minutes, he was no where to be found again and came back to ask if we wanted boxes. It was then that I was able to tell him I wanted my order to be fixed and he acted upset with ME. Finally got my order and we just got a box and left.
