Love this place! The drinks and tacos are so good - get the carnitas. Their elote dish is better in the summer when it’s in season… it’s kind of icky during the off season which I don’t blame them I blame the corn. The margs are drool worthy. Family friendly as well, we went for lunch and saw a lot of kids. Edit: they sat us at a dirty table inside after we requested a table outside. they apologized and said it was because they were too understaffed to clean the tables. There were dirty tables free outside, and the table we were sat at inside was sticky with visible remnants of food. I don’t understand why if we were going to be sat at a dirty table, it couldn’t be outside as we requested. I understand being understaffed, with it being Memorial Day weekend. I was more than willing to wait for a table outside, but that wasn’t an option given to us (despite there being several tables outside that were vacant but dirty.) We were sat at a dirty table inside and passed by a couple of waiters until we ultimately decided to leave. We decided to go to Talulah’s instead.

I ate here while visiting Providence. This restaurant is located close to downtown, and it was hard to find parking, I wonder if they could strike a deal with the gas station next door for the 20 empty spots they'd gain. The building is open-air and roomy inside, and has a lot of tables outside by the road as well. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the kitchen definitely takes pride in their work. The food was outstanding, authentic Mexican food. The majority of the menu is tacos or alcohol, and I'd give the money factor a $$$ due to the drinks. Even an 8oz bottle of soda costs $4, with some margaritas over $10 apiece. I think the food was reasonably priced based on the quality of the ingredients. They also serve grasshoppers, if you prefer. I did not try the grasshoppers. My meal was the Al Pastor platter, which was 2 tacos filled with adobo-marinated pork, pineapple, and salsa, with sides of black beans and Mexican rice. It was so delicious, and even the black beans were worth complimenting due to the perfection of the spices.

I should start by saying that my poor rating has nothing really to do with the food- because the food was pretty good (except for the rice and beans- those were meh). My husband, who has been working nonstop (he works in theater) for weeks finally got a decent meal break so my two sons (age 7 & 2) and I decided to meet him at Xaco Taco for dinner. We were worried about time so I called our food in advance just in case. Once we arrived, we decided we had enough time to sit down- we asked the hostess to sit down outside but she apologized and said they couldn’t accommodate us but that we were welcome to sit on the bench located outside of the restaurant. So we said, “no worries, we will just sit inside”.. she proceeded to tell us that inside was also not an option because they reserve the tables for “active customers.” Keep in mind that the inside dining room was COMPLETELY EMPTY! We had just received our food and tipped $10 on a $60 takeout tab mind you. Had we sat down, I would have ordered a drink and tipped additionally. I was a waitress/bartender for years so I take care of my own. I understand that it’s a little odd to place a takeout order and then ask to be seated, but life is complicated and plans change. My boys missed their daddy and we just wanted to enjoy a nice dinner together. It’s sad that a business would treat their paying customers this way. I don’t care how tasty your tacos are- my family deserves better. Pic of my boys making the best of it eating outside.

Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Food: 2.5/5 i really appreciate the service here, can't emphasize enough that my 3 star rating has nothing to do with any staff here. they are very kind and hospitable. the vibes are cute, it's a bit too dim inside for my taste and tables could be a little less sticky but honestly could have been this humid summer and where the building is located. loved the music playlist, i heard a few selena songs and was very happy. i just feel the food is not hitting unfortunately. this was my third time visiting and i gave it a few tries before writing because i really wanted to like the food. the staff and vibes are top star. the food is all lacking in salt and lime which is crucial for latin cuisine. too much salsa to make up for the lack of salt and lime doesn't balance out. it's not that i won't be back, if a group of friends wants to go then i'll join. but i wouldn't seek this out for a date or solo or plan the outing here if i'm craving tacos.
