One internet account for the entire hotel which is not sufficient. The connection is at 65% at its best. As the week went on and filled with more visitors it only dropped nightly.
The shower is 3 sq ft with a fabric curtain that clings to your back wide when in use. It is 2 foot wide glass panels with an open center and a rain head in the center which is slightly like getting water tortured the duration of the shower. You can soap without the water hitting you and you canāt shampoo hair without an elbow knocking the temperature gauge.
The toilet never fully flushes. Just collected water and slowly gets rid of it. About 4 times in our 5 night stay did the toilet properly gurgle and flush completely.
There is no head board do one of you two pillows will be used to fill the gab between the bed and wall.
The elevator is a cute idea but with luggage and after days operating that guillotine door while having to use the other hand to keep the main door open itās just a hassle.
Housekeeping did a nice job but for whatever reason left us no toilet paper. So going down to one desk we were only given one roll at a time,
There was a particularly rude man at the desk often who avoided eye contact and when approached would still not say hi. When I inquired about parking I was told there was a lot and I could pay. When I asked if there was a hotel rate and snicker and said ānopeā. And he didnāt offer to tell us that instead of using the $75 a day lot attached we can use street parking through the app. Lucky for us we are clever.
The elevator glitches once every other day and gets stuck between floor two and one. Which is very scary the first time as you away to fall without a bottom in an elevator. Then it moves and you survive.
The hallways are lit with red lights which sets a mood - but we are not in a casino and it makes it difficult to arrive at a hotel and not be able to see. Even the teenager I was with agreed it was bizarre and not cool.
The check out stuff didnāt know how to print a check out bill and are happy to watch you struggle down the four steps into the lobby and the two steps out of the door. Two people just watching and the one rude man still refusing to acknowledge you exist.
The room was cute and small but fine. The window unit is a bit loud but ok. Overall 2 stars but wonāt be back ever. Not worth the outrageous non competitive price and overall...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat a terrible experience staying here was! Upon arriving, you canāt see any indication that youāve arrived at THE DEAN, just a lit up sign that says HOTEL, but what hotel?! No one knows until you get up to the entrance. Upon entering, nowhere to set any baggage. The hotel was very dark and unwelcoming. The elevator looks like a death trap. The gates on the elevator didnāt work the night we were there off and on, so definitely enter at your own risk. When I got into the room, it was very dim and not well lit at all, even with every light turned on. The only artwork on the wall was of a creepy guy. Again, not very welcoming. Upon getting into the bed I went to pull the sheet up and much to my surprise, there was what appeared to be old dried blood or some sort of nastiness on the sheet. I immediately jumped out of the bed, called down to the desk and he said heād get it taken care of. So, I waited about 15 minutes and the guy from the front desk knocked on the door and tried to hand me a sheet. I, as the guest, shouldnāt be expected to change the bedding, nor do I want just the one sheet changed. What makes me think the rest of the bedding was clean if that one sheet wasnāt? So he said heād try getting ahold of the housekeeping manager. Almost an hour and a half later, the front desk guy came back with more sheets and said heād remake the bed himself because no one from housekeeping was available. Upon changing the rest of the bedding, we found he was missing more of the bedding, so he left to find it and another half an hour later a girl showed up, smelling like weed that permeated the room. She helped make the bed but she didnāt have a top comforter so we had sheets for the night. Upon finally getting to bed, we heard partying and loud music all hours of the night. The next morning, I went to take a shower and the shower knob was broken. The thermostat in the room didnāt work so the room was hot all night. Also, one of the outlets by the bed didnāt allow anything to be plugged into it, so that was useless. The holes seemed blocked. They also have snacks in the room to include $15 INSTANT coffee. What?! I would definitely not stay at this hotel and would never recommend it. The location is the ONLY good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Dean Hotel is definitely an experience in more ways than one. From the chic interior to the cool gate style elevator or the retro lighting, you will not be disappointed if you are looking for a vintage experience, but that's where it stops.
The rooms are lit with antique lighting, which while cool, make for dimly lit rooms. The beds while comfortable are spaced just enough from the wall that you will end up with a cramped neck as you wake up with your pillow tucked between the wall and the bed frame.
The AC unit in our room was running the entire time. Never had a problem with it and it was a godsend for the humid weather I experienced with my 4 days in Providence.
I only saw one staff member working at the coffee/breakfast bar once during my entire stay (4 days). And even then the coffee bar looked to be closed. Definitely best to find your breakfast and coffee at one of the myriad of places outside of the hotel.
No working vents in the bathroom will leave your post showering experience to be entertaining and thoughts of a sauna will creep into your mind. The TV is in a very awkward spot and in my case was never used by myself or my family that I booked the room with.
Also due to the location of the building and this is no fault of the owners, you will get to hear ALL the sounds of the inner downtown workings. Lights passing by, sirens, horns, and in our case, random fireworks going off for the 4th of July weekend.
My biggest complaint by far was the parking. One would think that for the price you pay to stay, you would get either VIP parking or just hotel parking in general. Definitely not the case here. You will pay for parking and if you happen to leave the hotel to go visit other places, your parking becomes an experience for the RNG gods. It becomes a first come first serve situation. Which in my opinion, is absolutely ridiculous.
Overall, our stay was okay. Would I stay here a 2nd time? No, no I wouldn't. The parking issue still annoys me.
While the experience is unique, the amenities provided by the hotel are subpar. The staff are friendly, but the experience, again from my point of...
