If you have seen the hype on Instagram and Tik Tok, then here is an honest review on the Northlake location. My family and I frequent our favorite Mexican restaurant and taco trucks in Milwaukee, so we were excited to check out a new place.
Overall, customer service was good and the restaurant was clean. Tacos were generous and filled with meat! Pico de Gallo was refreshing. Chicharrons had a good flavor, but some pieces were fried too hard. Carnitas and barbacoa were tender and savory. I wouldn't say the best, but they were good. Pozole had a nice, simple flavor and the pork and hominy was cooked well. I only wish that the soup was served hot and not lukewarm. The house made bottles of mild and hot sauce were tasty.
The restaurant gets extremely crowded-10 dining tables. With the open kitchen concept, you can see and hear everything being prepared. I was not a fan of the fast-food concept. Our family of four spent about $100 (4 taco dinners, pozole, chips (a little too oliy) & guac, cebollitas & chiles, pico, chicharrons, and drinks) on a late lunch around 2PM and it was hard to find seating. Even as we were finishing up our meals, there was another family standing around our table like vultures to grab our seats.
With the long lines to order & pick-up food, constant pounding/chopping of the meat cleaver, having sporks to eat with---all within a small dining area did not give off the most pleasant dining experience. If you are in the area, I'd say grab a taco or dish to go, but I wouldn't make the drive again solely for...
Read moreIf you're looking for a delicious and authentic Mexican meal, you need to check out the new taco restaurant that specializes in carnitas and homemade tortillas! From the moment you walk in, you know you're in for a treat. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with colorful decor and friendly staff ready to take your order.
The menu features a variety of tasty options, but the real standout is the carnitas. These slow-cooked pork tacos are tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. And when paired with the homemade tortillas, they're simply irresistible. Their tortillas are soft and melt-in-your-mouth, and you can tell they're made with care.
Aside from the carnitas, the menu has something for everyone, including vegetarian options. The salsa and guacamole are also worth noting - they're both fresh, flavorful, and perfectly complement the tacos. And don't forget to try the horchata, a sweet and refreshing cinnamon rice milk drink that's a perfect match for your meal.
Overall, I highly recommend trying Carnitas Don Alfredo! It's clear that they put a lot of love and care into their food, and the result is a delicious and satisfying dining experience. So if you're craving some authentic Mexican cuisine, head on over and give them a try - you won't be...
Read moreI love trying new places. When mom suggested tacos, I knew this was an opportunity to try a restaurant we have past hundreds of times. I have been to Mexico a few times, and Carnitas Don Alfredo brings me back there. Some of the advertising in the restaurant said Michoacán style (I had to Google that, Michoacán is a state along the Pacific ocean just south of Jalisco - the state Puerto Vallarta is in. One of my favorite Mexican cities). The menu is in Spanish with English subtitles (just like in Puerto Vallarta!). I got the Torta Milanesa, a chicken breast pounded flat in seasoned bread crumbs and deep-fried. Served on a soft roll that is toasted and buttered with lettuce, avocado, and tomatoes. It was one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had. Mom had a Burritoes Asada. The beef was tender and well seasoned without being spicy. Each table has two hot sauces to add the amount of heat you want. The counter had geometric tile work that reminded me of the aguava plant - that tequila comes from. I do not know if that is intentional, but the state of Michoacán does have some tequila...
