This is my favorite restaurant on the island, and I humbly believe (and have too been told) that I have really good taste. Forget everything you have known a bakery to be at the door, because as you walk up those steps, you enter a church - a sacred place dedicated to culinary mastery. It is a temple of art, creation, nutrition & service. This is not a mere bakery,
The professionalism and dedication the owners possess is A+ …. Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) in this establishment is beautiful. And quality. And cared for: from sparkling stone tables to painted chocolates to walls of greenery - the owners notice everything (with love for everything and everyone in mind) and are always updating (really I should say ELEVATING your experience here) The vibe is so calm, peaceful, elegant, kind and sophisticated! I’ve eaten everything from pastries to coffee to mimosas to beers to wine to breakfasts to sandwiches to appetizers to dinner plates to chocolates to cakes and more!- moral of my story is that it doesn’t matter when you arrive, when you depart, what you eat, who is there, you will ALWAYS leave feeling better than when you arrived. I promise. Your body will also thank you later 🩵
Now for the food: Amazing. Delicious. Fine ingredients. Art in flavors. Healthy. Sweet. Rich. Light. Dense. Perfect. Basically every bite you take leads you to wonder “how do they do it?” Just wow. Then you go back another time, and again, the voice in your head asks “they did it again!?” Trying to describe a meal here is like describing how your favorite song makes you feel. Then you go back to your life, say you’ll try somewhere else, and if you’re in Luquillo for more than a few hours, you will and should try other places, but you’ll want to return to the bakery, again (trust me) A kind warning here: after experiencing the bakery, nothing will compare to it, and in the back of your brain you’ll compare elsewhere to the bakery.
How many places really, truly, deeply make you feel at home - welcome, loved, respected, honored & safe? Welcome to the bakery, mí amigo!!!
Bring your mom, bring your boyfriend, bring you friends, go alone, make friends with the next door table, or enjoy in solidarity. - no-matter what, this place assists in blocking out anything unimportant to YOU, you, your family, friends, just you and the most important person to you. And they do it as a team, as I’ve witnessed because I too like paying attention (when I’m not writing well planned & passionate reviews).
Now for prices: It’s less expensive than any comparable restaurant in the area, half (probably way less than half) the price of places like Marmalade in San Juan. The coffee is better than anywhere else, and so are the croissants and cost the same as other local places. If you want to spend a dollar on gas station burn coffee - don’t come here (The coffee is never burnt) or if you think $10 is too much for fluffy omelette with potatoes and a perfect green salad with just the right amount of tasty dressing - go to McDonald’s and spend $9 on a processed egg substitute meal + plus a tummy ache.
Now for service: Did I say how professional these guys are? Did I mention how welcoming they are? Sometimes I want to be adopted by this establishment, just so I can learn how to be so awesome, well mannered, & professional. I don’t know if I’ve ever gone out to eat and was shook with so much grace & respect like going to the bakery. (My brain will wonder, “like, do I deserve this? I forgot to mail that letter yesterday”) * see my section above on always feeling better when you leave from when you arrived* they are family 🥰
If you’ve read this far, and it’s between 6am and 10pm, it’s definitely about time to go to the bakery!!! See you there 😉
With love &...
Read moreAfter many disappointing experiences at Panderri, last night was the last straw. For starters, this place is significantly pricer than the average restaurant, but I don't mind paying a premium for top quality food and service. However the last few times here this hasn't been the case. Once I was over for lunch and I was given a burger than was medium well rather than medium rare. When I told the server she dismissed it like it wasn't a big deal. Mind you this is an expensive burger and my expectation is that the meat will be cooked per my preference which was stated when the waitress took our order. Another time I order a ribeye, and again it was overcooked. On another occasion I ordered the fillet mignon, which was not your typical fillet mignon, it was very short, overcooked (again) and the lack of thickness meant that there wasn't much flavor, and hence why it was overcooked. Every time when we order starters, they bring the starters, and no plates, no napkins, no utensils. We have to actively tell the waitress to bring things, that even at other less sophisticated restaurants, are standard. What really made me give up on this place and the reason why I will not go back was that we were presented with a bill where the prices matched the prices on the menu. But after we swiped our card to pay for the bill, the prices for all of the items changed. As it turns out, the prices were grossed up to 4% higher because we paid with card. This is an illegal practice in Puerto Rico. The receipt didn't even show that a card processing fee was charged. The prices simply were increased on every single item. When we told the staff, their excuse was that the prices were higher due to the card, and that their system charges them a fee when they take card payments. This is standard, what is not standard and not legal is not to simply charge an extra fee, but to end up charging a price per item higher than that shown on the menu. It is illegal per DACO policies on misleading advertisements. To charge the prices that they charge, and to then try to slide an extra 4% on top of all the prices is a bit aggressive, and a cheap practice. The menu doesn't say anything about credit card pricing, or that prices shown are inclusive of a cash discount. I won't report them to DACO because I understand how hard it is to operate a business in Puerto Rico, but they need either increase their prices, and have the menu prices reflect the increases, or keep the current prices and get rid of this illegal pricing difference for non-cash payments, or state on the menu that prices shown include a...
Read moreI am one of the group members with Luan and I can assure you that what he has written is correct. Your employee was rude, your food was overpriced, your business does not accommodate large groups and from another reviewer not even a small group of 4, you have pointed about that your own employee does not know what he is talking about, and you as the owner are extremely rude. The response below and as seen in nearly every other low star review shows that you are totally incapable of taking constructive criticism as a business. A simple fix here would be to include the additional charges on the menu and to not attack your customers or tell them they are cheap, that they don’t understand good quality, or even worse to attack their ethnicity or nationality. That is extremely pathetic and unprofessional and has nothing to do with you personally or the fact that you are in Puerto Rico, but with how you run your business. If you had responded in a more professional way and tried to actually understand what people are complaining about, you’d have a much more successful business. No one wants to post a negative review just because and none of us know you personally, they are posting due to a poor experience in your restaurant.
Anyway, as another reviewer said, as a customer your money is better spent at Coffee Therapy, which our group went to twice and had an excellent experience both times. The coffee is wonderful, great French toast, Cuban sandwiches, etc. And no hidden charges or angry owner aggressively responding to negative reviews.
Here is Luan’s review: First of all, I would appreciate it if you ensured that the details you mentioned actually matched our order. Some of the things you brought up don’t align with what we experienced. Yes, I did order the chef’s plate, but when I was asked how I wanted my eggs and chose scrambled, your employee didn’t inform us about any upcharge. They even mentioned that the reason for the extra charge was because you use 12 eggs for scrambled, but this was never communicated beforehand.
Your reply comes off as disrespectful and petty, which reflects poorly on you as an owner. We had no issue paying our bill, which we did right away, and we even left a tip.
Secondly, why bring ethnicity into this? I’m Brazilian, and we had both white and Hispanic people in our group, but I don’t see how that’s relevant. Just because we were frustrated by an unexpected charge and misleading information from your employee doesn’t mean we can’t afford to dine out.
Lastly, maybe it’s time to take down your Christmas...
