We’ve lived in the area for about 3.5 years and, for no particular reason, had not yet made it to Velocity Wings. But then our daughter’s school had a Spirit Night there so we decided to go. Well, let me tell you, I’m bummed we haven’t tried it sooner!!
They were pretty busy on this particular night but we were seated right away. The dining room is okay, but then put some tables between two rows air booths so it be a bit of a tight fit. But nothing too crazy. Our booth had a TV so it would be an okay place to watch sports. There are also a couple bar areas if you wanted to sit there.
Service was good. The only complaint I would have is that, for some reason, our daughter’s max and cheese came out 5-10 minutes after the rest of our dinners. And we had to remind them. But I give them a pass due to the spirit night rush.
The waiter was knowledgeable and gave recommendations on wing flavors to my husband. We were also pleasantly surprised that they have some additional wing flavors not on the menu… much to my daughter’s delight who loves Old Bay on her wings.
Now about the food… they have this great option to add five wings as a “combo” to any meal. So you don’t have to decide between wings and something else. The wings are large and cooked well. But I was most in love the the Black and Bleu Steak salad I got. It was sooo good! Seriously, I’m craving it right now! My husband split his order between Island Dry Rub and Memphis Dry Rub. The Memphis was just okay for him but he enjoyed the Island Dry Rub so much he was trying to eat the remnants using his celery!
Velocity Wings is a great local option for good food and it bout a stuffy atmosphere or getting too loud. We will definitely...
Read more"Okay" -- One word describes this place just perfectly. The food, service, atmosphere, and details are all just "okay". What you can expect is run-of-the-mill pub food that honestly isn't too bad but in no way elevates your dining experience.
My girlfriend and I were seated pretty quickly, placed our order, and from there it was a waiting game. Considering the restaurant was hardly busy, the food took an extremely long time to get to our table. The same was true of our drinks. However, the food did come out hot and seemingly freshly prepared.
What I Liked: Buffalo Chicken Sandwich (3/5) - The sandwich was tasty, with the buffalo sauce, mayonnaise, lettuce, and chicken all coming together just fine. However, the chicken is clearly a processed, frozen chicken patty. Nothing is noteworthy about the sandwich, but it's just fine.
Sweet Sriracha Boneless Bites (4/5) - The boneless wings are pretty good but aren't nearly as crisp or fresh as other wing spots. The variety of sauces though is great and you get a generous pour as well.
What I Disliked:
Sweet Potato Fries (2/5) - Burnt from the outset, these fries did not look tempting at all. They also lacked any flavor of any kind.
Nachos (1/5) The nachos lacked several of the ingredients listed on the menu. On top of that, the chili was cold, as if it had just come out of the freezer and had been thawed.
While it's a decent place to grab a quick bite, Velocity Wings fails to impress with its lackluster service and merely...
Read moreWe order from here about once a month and swear its the last time each time promising that we'll just take the drive to the Lovettsville location for better wings. This weekend, we ordered three sets of wings, 1 breaded, 2 tossed w/sauce. One of the tossed orders requested an different flavor sauce on the side - this order came naked with two sauces on the side. I called expressing my disappointment and that I could not drive back to the restaurant. I asked could she just give me a discount on my next order or something. Kerri said there was nothing she could do unless I brought the wings back to be tossed. After reiterating that I would not be driving back she said something along the lines "well I don't know what you want me to do." I've worked in food service and there's ALWAYS something that can be done (partial discount, promo code, etc.). After hanging up, she had the audacity to call me back saying I was "upset" the wings weren't tossed and then explained to me the difference between breaded and tossed wings. She even attempted to read back what was ordered and read it incorrectly which showed how the order was messed up in the first place.
To be clear, I was not upset that the wings weren't tossed, mistakes happen. I wasn't even upset that that same order of wings asked for all carrots but received a mix with celery. These are minor grievances. I was frustrated with how Kerri handled the situation, there was no sense of "let me make this better for you, with...
