I will try to be fair here because I'm sure every restaurant has an off day. We waited 30 mins on a Wednesday night at 6 to be seated outside, even though there were 6 tables open. Got seated and didn't see a server for 15 mins while we decided what to drink. Put in our libation order-a group of 8 of us-2 beers, 2 diet cokes, 1 margarita, 1 decaf coffee, and waters. Server also took an app order for us which consisted of the elote corn fries [x2] and the table side guacamole [$15]. We then waited and waited. I looked at my watch-we arrived at 5:58, seated at 6:28, placed our drink and apps order around 6:45 and didn't see anyone until 7. By this time, I'm thinking are we being punked? The server came by to refill our water and apologized for the delay, apparently the bar is backed up. Ok. We had to ask for utensils and plates because when our apps arrived, we were all trying to eat but it was getting pretty uncomfortable reaching over each other. She brought over the cart for the table side guac and the plates and just left it there. Server is nowhere to be found and it's now 7:15. I got the servers attention and asked how much longer it would be before she even took our dinner order. She was frazzled. I asked her if service is always this slow and if there was any update on how much longer we'd have to sit there and she just walked away while I was talking to her. My group and I decided we were no longer going to be treated like a burden so we placed a Papa John's order over the phone and had it delivered to our house while we asked for the check. I called the server over and told her to cancel the drink order and to please bring us the check. Then the manager came over and said I'm so sorry please stay and the drinks will be on the house-I told him we appreciate that but would prefer to just get our check and go. Server came back and told us our 2 apps [never got the guacamole] was comped. I'm trying to be understanding. There is no excuse for poor customer service. If you're backed up, communicate that to your patrons. A simple-hey, we're about 20-30 mins behind on everything, let me get you some chips and salsa and I'll be back to check on you guys as much as possible. That one statement would have been a game changer. I write this incredibly long review because I want to be candid about our experience. I do not recommend this restaurant at all. The food we did get to taste was decent. Not worth the money they charge you for it though. I would recommend going to Olive Garden or Red Robin if you're looking for great food, fast service, and well trained...
Read moreWe saw this place open up in Queen Creek with a large patio and thought we'd give it a try since we live nearby. Truth be told, what drove us here was the fact that Pita Jungle doesn't have working heaters on their patio still. (So weird how much business they drive away because they won't buy propane...). Anywho, the wait staff at Barrio Queen was very friendly and attentive. They sat us right away with plenty of distance from others, and kept turning the heaters back on when they'd go out. We looked over the happy hour menu and it was disappointing to see no vegetarian options there. However, I did see a few vegetarian/dairy free options on the main menu and ordered the chili relleno, which they advertise on their menu as having a vegan option (they basically leave out the cheese). The dish does not come with meat, and has a base price of 16 dollars. I was a little taken aback by that price. I'd expect that from a gourmet restaurant, this place felt more like a neighborhood bar and grill... but I wanted to give them a chance. The chili relleno was advertised as being made in a "white wine sauce"... Our food took awhile to come out, and when it did, mine had cheese all over it despite me ordering it without. She offered to have them remake it, but at this point I didn't want to wait even longer and be wasteful on top of it, so I just scraped it off. The dish was the size of a single normal-sized poblano pepper, which was filled mostly with corn, and a few scraps of what looked like zucchini, onion and tomato. It wasn't even hot when it came out. It was just room temperature and quickly got cold, which was disappointing. I didn't taste or see any sauces, and ended up pouring on the salsa from the chips and salsa for flavor. I was also brought a side of beans, which had about as much flavor as if I'd heated up a can of black beans in the microwave. My date ordered a few fish tacos, which were the micro-mini kind, and were more reasonably priced I suppose at 12 dollars for 3. They came with a sauce that he was not interested in. Overall, as I said the service was nice, but the food quality sadly does not live up to the...
Read moreVisited new Queen Creek location for first time today. We love love love Barrio Queen Gilbert and Scottsdale. Queen Creek has some catching up to do. They have only been open for a month, so it is normal that they are experiencing some growing pains. The staff is very friendly, but appeared inexperienced. We noticed several times as we waited an excessive and unacceptable amount of time to be acknowledged that staff was congregating and socializing rather than checking on their tables. The manager did check with us once and was very professional and on top of his responsibilities. We had to ask a passing server, though, more than once to ask our server to come to our table because we needed to order and hadn't seen him in quite a while. It seems that they are understaffed. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table, which is fine, but there were several empty tables throughout the restaurant. Part of our disappointment with the experience involved a group of people next to whom we were seated who were extremely loud, obviously drunk, and possessed little vocabulary beyond the F word. The Barrio Queen staff did kindly allow us to move. We would hope that management would be attentive to the fact that this should, on a Saturday afternoon, be considered a family restaurant, and due to the fact that there were several families in surrounding seats with young children, perhaps be more aware of those who might be drinking too much and behaving inappropriately. As far as the food goes, it was OK. The chips were really bad compared to other Barrio Queens, but that is not a big deal. There were three of us, and two of the meals were great. One was disappointing. Our server kindly deducted it from our bill. We have been excitedly anticipating the opening of this restaurant and will surely give it another chance, however, we will probably wait a while to let them get through the initial process of...
