UPDATE NOV 3: I've upgraded my two stars to four. Ordered take out tonight. I had the "Alfredo the Dark" pasta with added meatballs. My wife had a Caesar Salad and a side of sweet potato fries. Pics attached. Portions are HUGE. Prices are small. Food was good. Order was ready for pick up at the time I designated online when I placed my order earlier. Staff was friendly and helpful and well-prepared. In my opinion, this is the equivalent fast food Italian pub grub. Maybe we should have stuck with the pizza? After all, the name is Oregano's PIZZA Bistro. The menu is about 50-50 split between pizza and other foods such as pastas, sandwiches and salads. I had the Chicago style sausage sandwich. Left half of it. The bread was dry and tasteless. The sausage was dry and rubbery. The cheese topping looked and felt like a layer of glue. It came with a side of marinara sauce but the sausage was not cooked in marinara, as typical Italian sausage is, which was why it was dry and chewy. Also, was not served with any other toppings - no sauteed onions, no sauteed green peppers. My wife had the Caesar salad. Mediocre. Service was good. Food was served quickly.

Not bad. Fun, family friendly and nice employees (very attentive). We had two servers, 1 in training. They did a good job overall, but there were some miscommunication. Nothing horrendous. Being from the Chicagoland area, I have a hard time eating pizza from other places, but decided to try any way. The server informed me I can get a 1/2 and 1/2. I was actually debating between two and that's what I did. 12" 1/2 Aunt Margherita and 1/2 Fancy Dancy Mushroom. That fancy dancy mushroom is delicious. My five year old LOVED it, too! The Margherita wasn't bad, but there was a flavor that didn't belong. I had a hard time pinpointing it, but I think they use all spice or something along those lines on it. Get rid of it and that will be a bomb pizza. My boys had the kid's pizza slice and it was perfect for them. Great decor and very "punny" shirts.. 😀

We went on a Friday night about 5:30pm. Waited an hour to be seated and called ahead but it was a holiday weekend, so we understand. Hostess was very pleasant in spite of the busyness. Good didn’t take long to come. Waitress was attentive and kept our water glass filled. Grandson spilled a cup of water and the busser was super accommodating about it. Thanked us for trying to help clean up. The food was great! Good portions and served hot. Pizzas have nice, thin crust the way we like them. Meat lovers had huge pieces of sausage. Very good. Lasagna was piping hot, cheesy and tasty sauce. Ravioli was kind of plain tasting. Spaghetti was very good. Good portion, hot and tasty. The garlic bread can’t be beat!! We’ve been to other Oregano’s locations. This is our first time here. Good experience overall.

The only reason I’m not giving 1 star is I still really like the food here.

Now coming to why I am giving a low rating, I was thoroughly disappointed with the service I got yesterday night by our server, Andrew.

To start of, he messed up our wings order three times. Since it was moderately busy, I let this go still. What’s worse is he would never come back to refill our waters. My wife asked him to take the dirty plates away, he responded ‘1 sec’, went to another table and ignored us again and started talking to the table behind us. On another occasion, he did the same thing. We asked for silverware and napkins. He said he’ll be back. Then he came out of the kitchen, ignored us and went to two other tables to ask how they were doing. It was extremely disrespectful and I’m not sure if this service was a result of simple incompetence or discrimination since he was attentive to all other tables except us.

Every other time I’ve been here, never had a single issue with any server. I sincerely hope that management ensures this doesn’t happen again to any other customer because I love the pizza here.

UPDATE**

After leaving a 2 star review on poor service, I was immediately contacted by the manager from this location. She sincerely apologized and sent a gift card for another opportunity. I really appreciate when a business owns up to their mistake and makes amends. The free meal doesn’t matter but the fact that they accepted their mistake and took immediate action speaks great...

If you’re looking for authentic Italian food, look elsewhere because Oregano’s isn’t it! However, if you’re open towards Italian cuisine with a heavy Mexican twist, you will feel right at home here.

If you’re like me, a foodie who has also worked and managed extensively in the restaurant, fine dining and hospitality world, and, as someone who likes going on culinary adventures, you would be intrigued by a different kind of menu, as much as I was when I first ate at Oregano’s.

As a New Yorker of European descent, having grown up with authentic Italian cuisine, Oregano’s menu items and flavour profile surprised me. The portions are certainly huge and the dishes are packed with flavour, albeit Mexican flavour, paired with fundamental basics of Italian cuisine, such as the use of pasta and bread.

While I prefer authentic Italian cuisine, there is nevertheless one reason why I keep returning to this cute, vintage, 1950s themed restaurant with beautiful old school music playing in the background:

SERVICE!

The latter amazed me because of one young man, a host, named Mason, which is why I returned and continue to return to this particular location of Oregano’s in Queen Creek.

I realize my review is detailed with my take on this restaurant’s menu.

Thus, read above / on for the second part of my review in which I elaborate upon Oregano’s service in...

We have always gone to the Oregano’s in Gilbert and everything has been near perfect there, so we tried our local Bistro on Saturday night for a pickup order pizza. When I got there the place was packed, so they must be doing something right! I checked in and the cashier said it would be a 5-10 minute wait...I was early, so I knew there would be a wait. I had a nice conversation with another couple waiting for a table that made the wait go quickly. When the pizza and wings came out the cashier showed me the pizza and it appeared a bit burnt on the edge, but we kinda like a toasted thin crust pizza. Other than that all looked well! I drove the 5 minutes home and my wife and I began to serve out our portions. Immediately I noticed the middle 10 inches of the pizza crust was barely cooked. We ate pieces from the outer edge and that part had good flavor. The wings were fully cooked but not over done, we got the medium hot ones, but they were truly more mild...the blue cheese dressing was fabulous! Nice big chunks of cheese and a nice creamy dressing. We will eat in there another time because as I said, they were packed busy when I got there so they must be doing something right, it just wasn’t our...
