Review of The Wheelhouse

I visited The Wheelhouse with my son to explore trading cards, and it turned out to be quite an eventful day. Unfortunately, it was overshadowed by an unpleasant experience involving the owner. While there was a professional athlete present, which could have made for an exciting atmosphere, the owner’s arrogant and dismissive behavior took away from the enjoyment.

As we waited in line, the owner aggressively told customers to back up, creating a tense environment. I found this particularly frustrating as I am currently dealing with long COVID and have difficulty walking easily. At one point, a mother in front of me left with her children because they were repeatedly pushed back in line. If the owner had taken the time to navigate her line more thoughtfully and ensured her guests felt welcomed, the experience could have been much more enjoyable.

The presence of the pro athlete was a fantastic opportunity for fans, and it would have been great if the owner had facilitated a more positive interaction between her guests and the athlete. Creating a friendly atmosphere where the athlete could engage with fans would have added to the overall experience and made the day truly special.

When I refused to move back with my son, the owner identified herself and called a police officer to escort us out. The police officer should have been navigating the line instead of the owner who was just taking pics and did nothing to help create order or ease. It was especially frustrating because I was not resisting; I simply wanted to stand my ground as a mother and a paying customer. This sense of entitlement was off-putting, particularly since I had previously spent a significant amount of money in her store to support her business.

It’s disappointing to see someone who lacks basic customer service skills and treats loyal customers poorly. I will no longer support her or her store, and I hope she learns to appreciate the people who are there for her. Good luck to her...

My experience at Wheelhouse Cards was great. When I arrived I was completely uneducated about the trading card market and the grading process behind it all, after spending probably 15-20 mins talking with the owner, I was much more knowledgeable and had to take a stab at it myself. My friend and I were looking for the “thrill of the rip” as the owner described and bought a 1992-‘93 box in hopes of hitting big. What followed next I believe blew both the owners and definitely our expectations. As we spent the night slowly working through the 36 packs provided in the box. We quickly stumbled upon a Shaq rookie card (the prize possession of the pack). What seemed to be the pinnacle of the night quickly became just the beginning. As we continued to carefully make our way through the packs we found 4 Shaqs, 3 50pt Jordan cards, and many more valuable cards. It was unbelievable. At this point we had no idea how to properly sell/grade the cards and went right back to owner. Not only did he offer their grading services, but he also said he would assist us in selling the cards as we were not knowledgeable of where and how to do so. In conclusion, my friend and I could not have been more thrilled with the experience and without proper instruction and explanation from the owner we would not have even thought of ripping through a deck that night. And even if we had, we would’ve probably ruined the cards in the process not knowing the proper procedure.
