This review is for coffee I ordered online only, I ordered 2lb of "The Classic" coffee, whole beans supposedly on the far end of the dark roast scale. The coffee was just terrible, I have purchased coffee on more than a few occasions that I didn't particularly like, what I usually do is simply add 2 or 3 grams to my pour over blend and use it up that way.
I have never ordered a coffee that I was simply unable to use, the flavor profile on this coffee is to my taste so bad that even a couple of grams ruins the cup of coffee. It's not just me, my wife who isn't as much of a coffee snob as me can tell immediately when I put as little as 1 gr into the blend. It has a flavor profile that is so distinctive and unsavory (to my taste) that it is basically unusable for us.
A couple thoughts on the roast, this is taken a bit past the first crack but not really close to the 2nd where imho a true dark roast coffee is achieved. This would be at best a medium roast perhaps on the darker side of medium. I would recommend you don't order the 2lb bag like I did to save on shipping and try a small bag if you want to give this roaster a shot.
For some background our favorite blend is San Francisco Bay French Roast, we have ordered coffee from JBC, Volcania, Stumptown, Black Rifle, Kicking Horse, etc.. We have tried a lot of coffee and this is my first negative review of a bag of beans.
However I do have to comment that beans were very freshly roasted, we received them a couple days after the roasted on date which is great as the beans...
Read moreAfter being a loyal customer for over a year and spending more than $600 on Black White Coffee through their Bottomless subscription, Iâm incredibly disappointed in how they handled a simple requestâone that ultimately cost them my business.
I originally subscribed because I loved their coffee. I stuck with them for the variety, the quality, and the convenience. But recently, they swapped out my preferred blend with something completely differentâand frankly, it was awful. Tasted burnt, bitter, and undrinkable. I kindly reached out to ask if they could replace the bag, especially given how much Iâve spent with them. The answer? A flat no.
No apology. No effort to make it right. Just a cold, inflexible response that made it clear customer satisfaction wasnât their priority.
When youâre paying premium prices for specialty coffee, the customer service should match the product. Instead, I was treated like a number, not a loyal customer. I didnât leave because of the coffeeâI left because they clearly donât care about the people buying it.
I canât recommend Black White Coffee anymore. There are too many roasters out there who not only deliver excellent coffee but also know how to treat their customers with...
Read moreI'm just going to be blunt; I have avoided writing this review because I was trying to figure out whether or not I was inherently biased somehow, and wasn't trying to be hyperbolic.
Across all roasts and flavors here, this is the best coffee on average I've ever had. There are other roasters I love; Coava in Portland, Flywheel in SF, Little Waves here, they're great. But I've never had the level of absolute joy I get trying coffee from B&W. It's to the point now that I have been cutting off the labels to the bags and keeping them so I can go through and figure out my tastes.
I get a bag of The Future whenever they release it. It's also the only place I'll go and fork over the occasional $9 for a pour-over that blows my mind.
It's also within spitting distance from Boulted Bread, so...
