I have been here many times in the past (at least 10x) but moved away in the last few years. Came back to town and went out with friends to Kanki again (along with children). The food was the highlight and I’ve eaten at many other hibachi-style places and Kanki still has the best rice, ginger salad, “zen-sai shrimp”, sauces and filet. So why 3 stars... well, the other half of the meal is the “show” or preparation. In the past it has been excellent... but this time our server was lackluster at best and said some things he shouldn’t be saying. Everyone has bad days... and he said he had worked the lunch shift too and been with the company a very long time. But aside from him skipping fun items like tossing shrimp at people, making music with the wood shakers, a flame volcano, etc etc- he made odd / disconcerting comments like “I’ll never eat here” and “Don’t try the sushi” and then even more oddly he said “Oh look, here comes more white people. White people everywhere”. Everything he said was said jokingly, but joking about the quality of food were about to eat or race of any kind really aren’t good comic relief material at a restaurant. At the end it just get like this was down and dirty make the food, turn the table, move on. I have no complaints about the food- it was honesty as good as ever- but the experience was not like the food. We even started off by clapping and trying to be interactive. Again- the food was great, but at $40/plate give or take, I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect some of what makes hibachi-style preparation exciting.

Kanki is always a great pleasure but today was difficult to comprehend how they lost/stole my credit card when my bill had to be adjusted for teriyaki sauce $3.50 (miscommunication) was added, we never had that issue before, and a new waiter that called me "girl, I just work here" 👀🤷🏽‍♀️ after I asked her about it. then I said, I would like to speak to a manager. he was very polite, and said always ask for sauce on the side (which I did) however my bank card got lost/stolen within minutes and I had to cancel it immediately in the restaurant🤦🏽‍♀️ you don't know what's going on in the back when lots of ppl are wondering around, smh, just disappointed in the way that was handled; looking everywhere and no card. So, I gave him another bank card and thankfully that wasn't taken in the back. "Be Careful" at any restaurant for that matter, times are getting desperate, but a whole new credit card gone was totally unbelievable to me. He said they have cameras everywhere, so I told him to role the tape back because that card "is" in this restaurant 💯 she of course never came back out, so it makes me wonder. Thanks Kanki, we'll be back, probably with cash next time💯💕

We recently tried this sushi spot inside the mall, and overall, it was a decent experience. The food was good—we started with calamari as an appetizer, and it was definitely a highlight. We also had soup, chicken, and a couple of sushi rolls, all of which were tasty and well-prepared. The service was okay. We seated ourselves, and our server didn’t talk much, just brought the food. Not bad, just not very engaging. The atmosphere was fine—it’s what you’d expect for a restaurant inside a mall. Convenient if you’re shopping and want to grab a bite. One downside was the pricing. For a mall restaurant, it felt a bit overpriced. The quality was good, but not quite enough to justify the cost. Overall, it was fine. Good food, decent service, and a convenient location, but a little on the expensive side for what it is.

Definitely by far the worst service I’ve ever received in restaurant history! Where do I start? We arrived at approximately 6:00 with a party of 9 adults and 4 small children. Two of us had birthdays. The front desk let us know upon arrival that it would be a 2 hour wait. Due to the high reviews and ratings we decided to wait. They advise us that we could leave as we did and come back at 8 o’clock. When we came back it took about 15 mins more for them to seat us. The section they chose to seat us in was very uncomfortable in space and coldo as we as were accommodating 4 seniors citizens in our group. We immediately expressed the concern of the temperature which ended in our table moving to a different section. This took an additional 10 minutes. The waitress took our drink orders etc. By the time our cook came to service us it was about 9:30. At this point the waitress had had our orders incorrect multiple times. It all was so disappointing. Finally a manager came out, not to check on our service but to verify that one of people in our party was in the military for a discount verification. At that point I took the opportunity to express my concerns about our service. Not only did he not seem concern at all, but he very much dismissed everything I told him by responding poorly offering a corporate number. It doesn’t matter how much business you receive, it’s about the customer service you achieve. Tonight Kankis failed us! I didn’t eat my food because I was so disgusted. We was visiting from out of town and this was the worst part of our trip. We will never recommend this business to anyone else. The reviews under this business are very incorrect as there were others waiting as well. They was not short staffed but staffed with an incompetent manager that has zero customers service skills. Do NOT Give your hard earned money to...

The chef, server and bartender were fantastic this past visit. The host stand and manager lend to a less than desireable experience. We have had the bartender, Rob, on a few occassions and it has always been great service when we sit with him. He is the reason for the 3-star rating quite honestly. The hosts are rude and inattentive. The manager lacks any compassion or empathy related to negative feedback. Our most recent visit is a perfect example of the theme to all of our experiences. At 8 pm, we were told grill-side dining was an hour wait. There were numerous open grills. We were also told we could not wait in the lobby, but could walk around the mall (this was not an option as the mall was closed). We were also told to be back before 9 pm or we would not be seated, clearly a device to attempt to make us dine elsewhere. To avoid issue we sat at the bar and had sushi, which was great. No complaints aside from a lack of scotch to choose from. We were text our table confirmation at roughly 8:50pm, approached the host stand which was glued to their phones. I had to interrupt them to let them know we had received the text. Our server at grill-side was nice, polite and attentive despitre the proximity to closing time and the chef cooked all the food properly and quickly even going as far as switching out a steak for us (filet for ribeye) and making lemon butter for our lobster tail, a nice touch not seen at Kanki previously. This location is far closer than Durham, but overall the trip out to Durham never fails. Our experience was a step in the right direction and we would definitely sit at the bar to get sushi and drinks with Rob, but the overall experience needs some adjustments (mainly at the host stand) to frequent this location...

We used to love this place. USED TO...We kept coming back for great food despite long waits(1,5 hr-wait is ridiculous - we had to leave several times), despite our orders being mixed up, despite waiting 30 minutes for a drink, and despite host staff being RUDE. Last 2 times food was burnt, so there goes the last drop.

Well, this review is also about a particular experience we had today... Our friends invited us. They had a reservation for 9 people. Everybody got there on time, however, my party of 3 (2 adults and 1 child) had an emergency, so we we were running 15 minutes late. I understand there is a sitting policy and that a reservation may get canceled if the whole party doesn't show up in a certain period of time. My friends sincerely asked if we could join their table in 15 minute (chefs usually don't get to the table for, at least, 30 minutes). Hosstess' response was: "No, the chef and the server come only once to the table to take orders." My friends asked to, at least, try not to sit anyone instead of us for just a little bit. The second they got to the table, 2 other people were sat immediately at our sits. When we got to the restaurant and asked the hostess about what happened, she simply LIED that our friends canceled our two sits, and if we wanted to be sitted just somewhere else, it would be a 20-minute wait. No apologies for separating our party, NOTHING! We turned around and left! This is NOT THE WAY TO TREAT YOUR CLIENTS WHO SPEND HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON YOUR MEAL EACH TIME!

It was absolutely HUMILIATING to be separated from the people who invited us and made a reservation ahead if time. We drove there from Wake Forest with a small child only to say "Hello" to our friends, turn around,...
