I enjoyed the Popcorn Shrimp and Chicken Tenders Meal I ordered with green beans and coleslaw included as my two sides along with hushpuppies on my plate and water with lemon to drink. Although I was given Barbecue sauce, Honey Mustard sauce, and ranch sauce for my chicken tenders and popcorn shrimp, I just used barbecue and ranch sauces mixed with ketchup instead. This is not the part that I am concerned about. There are some other concerns that I will mention in the next paragraph below that happened this past Saturday afternoon around 2:20pm 05/11/2019. First off, I would not recommend Geri as a female waitress the next time I come over here to eat. The first time I was seated in a booth, she said, "I'll be right with you in a second" before taking other customers' orders. After she took those customers' orders, she came back and said the exact same thing to me the second time and then went on to talk with some other female customer who was checking out of the restaurant for al least two minutes. To tell a party of one person that you're going to be right with him or her in a second and never follow up after the first time is really aggravating. Somebody might be ready to place a dine-in order of what they want regardless of what age you are as a server. Secondly, I was ready to check out after finished eating my meal. When it was time for me to pay out for my meal, I filled out and signed both a store copy and customer copy. I handed the lady back the signed store copy and kept the customer copy in my pocket for my records, but I did not notice that I walked out of the store when another lady customer was getting my attention. I stopped and turned around and found out that she had my card which made me realize that I was lucky enough not to leave without my debit card. I say that to say this: Whoever was taking payments at the cash register counter did not know to what she was really doing at that time. That dine-in cashier who was in training should have given me back my debit card with my receipt instead of rushing me out of the restaurant without it. I hope this incident does not happen again. If it does, the same lady cashier who is still in training might as well lose her job there for that and go look for another job in another field instead of being the cashier whatsoever. Under no circumstances should cashiers withhold any customer's credit or debit card. I'm glad I still have my card with my so I can use it to pay my bills, grocery shopping, taxes, vehicle maintenance and other necessities in this world. So what if people make mistakes? That does not mean I cannot have what I need. Let me decide what I really need for my sake. Thank you all and have a blessed life. Also, I pray and hope this restaurant does more cleaning and gets their customer service attitude in check based on the lowest ratings I've checked so far. If you do not grant what the customers want just because you think it's your restaurant, then shame...
Read moreI used to be a big fan especially when I lived in Winston-Salem NC where the now franchise was a wedding gift for a daughter named Georgia from her father. One restaurant eventually became many and so on and so on. About 20 of us would meet at Mayflowers every Thursday evening to eat a feast and catch up with each other. I moved to Raleigh over 20 years ago and I missed Mayflower terribly. To my delight they opened a place in Raleigh and life was good again.
Yesterday I was there with a friend who used to be part of our beloved Thursday night meet, greet and eat. We were both belatedly celebrating our birthdays. Wow what a difference over 20 years can make and not in a good way. There is no bigger seafood fan then me with the exception of maybe Poseidon. The flounder and popcorn shrimp were edible but they massacred my oysters. They overcooked them twice and eventually obliterated them to liquid mush that was not edible or recognizable as food. I sent the order back twice and finally requested that they be removed from my bill. But in all honesty I was really wishing the oysters would be removed permanently from the menu post haste. We settled on a compromise and my lackluster oysters were replaced with some perky scallops.
Alas to say my fond memories of Mayflower will just have to remain that memories. But I must say this before departing, there is the sweetest and most accommodating waitress that works there by the name of Geri. If you get her to serve you ...you have hit the jack pot. We enjoyed her and showed it by leaving a big tip and hope you do the same. For the money, quantity of food and taste, I prefer the seafood restaurant at the State Farmer's Market.
On the high end is Bonefish Grill for seafood and it is on the pricey side. But you get what you pay for, except for desserts. The key lime pie is heavenly but the sliver of a slice they serve is a disgrace and is not worth the...
Read moreBeing that this was second time I've ordered a meal to-go from this restaurant, and been serviced poorly to say the least. That would be a compliment, and to give them even ONE star is being kind. My first experience at the Mayflower on Capital Blvd.; I ordered a meal to-go, the person taking my order seemed as though they didn't care and their mind was somewhere else. They kept messing up my order as I was placing it over the phone. Then the wait time that was supposed to be 10-15 minutes, was nowhere near that. Once I got to the restaurant, the staff was very rude, and their was one in particular with short dreads and glasses that was sucking their teeth, whispering nasty things about me, and snickering with the other staff memebers that were nonchalantly standing around as if they didn't have a job to do. My total wait time was almost 40 minutes, only for them to have gotten my order wrong AND have the nerve to overcharge me. It truly took all I had not to curse them ALL out for the piss poor "service" if that what you wanna call it. I'll be damned if I recommend that rat hole to anyone. The second visit, again a to-go order (not for myself), was called in, i went in to get it, my wait time very long about 35 minutes only for them to have gotten the order wrong, it was a Large Flounder dinner with Oysters and a baked potato, the order was missing the oysters and the staff members and I went back and forth for a few seconds about what was said over the phone. I couldn't take her simple-mindedness and took the plate. But again the same experience as before with the jerk with dreads and glasses, you'll find her to be such a "pleasant lady" said in a sarcastic voice. I had a piece of the order and got food poisoning. I just absolutely wouldn't recommend it at all. I reported them to the BBB. Save your money and potentially your lives by...
