Update: The owner’s response is quite revealing and highlights a concerning lack of customer service.

Rather than simply acknowledging that the sandwich could have been cut in half, they chose to deflect with false claims and personal attacks regarding OUR cleanliness, instead of addressing their own. As shown in the photos I posted, it appears they may not be complying with California Health & Safety Code regulations, which require BBQ grills to be safely separated from public access to ensure customer safety.

Given these concerns, I can’t help but wonder if the heartburn experienced is linked to possible food contamination. At this point, legal action might be a necessary step to address these issues.

Original Review:

A mediocre french dip sandwich with a side of terrible service.

Asked the guy to cut it in half—he refused, claiming it would “get juices everywhere” and instead gave me a knife to cut it myself outside in the freezing rain.

Spoiler: No “juices” appeared while I was cutting it on their wet countertop. Instead. the barely warm sandwich quickly turned cold in the wind. As an added bonus, their ultra-insulated bag kept the sandwitch cool and prevented the solid chunks of cheddar cheese from melting, just the way I like it...

Oh, and the heartburn afterward? Chef's kiss!

Big Boss Cafe is without a doubt the best sandwich I've had in probably a decade. When I first took a bite I instantly felt as if I was transported back in time to my early childhood. Memories of to when I would get a turkey sandwich and go to the park with friends.

In the past decade since the recession Ive seen every sandwich restaurant I love decrease the quality of their bread in order to maintain high profit margins. Stale bread, cooked the nights before or shipped in on trucks and stored in freezers, full of low quality grains and almost flavorless by the time its put onto a sandwich. I feel like we've become accustomed to bread just kind of tasting bland.

But here bread was fresh, and full of strong flavor. It was apparent that quality and flavor was the driving factor behind these sandwiches. The sandwich alone would've been enough to warrant a 5 stars, but the fact that everything else on the menu, from the drinks to the hotdogs, are solid as well makes this place...

Hands Down one of the best sandwiches everrr . The bread 🥖 is out of this world . So fresh and crunchy. My brother introduced this place to me and ever since I’ve become a regular . Im not kidding, u have to try and see it for yourself . Everytime i order it makes me so satisfied. Its so delicious i dont know how to explain it .
