Ok, I am so glad that this place exists for Rapid City! From the outside you wouldn't think much of the place, and once inside, it would look like an old cafe. Very simplistic atmosphere, but I feel this is where the charm of the place is. The owner Deloris “Pauline” Nicholson is just the sweetest person ever and is very generous when dishing out proportions! Now just because the atmosphere doesn't look like much doesn't mean the food matches! The food is outstanding. From the Jerk Chicken (My Favorite) to the cabbage, rice & peas (peas are actually beans they refer to them as peas) to the stew and gravy is just delicious. Be aware that the chicken will usually have bones in it due to the cooking of it. The meat just comes off easily but in case you or your children want to give this food a shot be aware of the bones! Now I know some of the reviews say she is overpriced. Here's the thing though, you get what you pay for! The price is quite adequate for the quality and quantity that you are getting for it. I usually come here about once a month at least to help support this place. She deserves at least once a week in my honest opinion! This is one of those rare gems that you will find in Rapid City buried behind a non-flashy exterior. Give it a shot, you won't regret this place. Truly worthy of your...
Read moreProfoundly disappointing. Arrived a bit after 11:30, excited for jerk chicken and curry goat, only to find out that the only item available was brown stew chicken or else brown stew pork. Vegetables were also not available and neither were the dumplings. Basically, nothing was going to be ready before 3-4 PM. Should've walked out, but was hungry, so got the brown stew chicken. It was almost all bones and skin - maybe two tablespoons of meat for the whole dish. With almost no gravy, the rice and peas were bland. Note that this place has portion problems and seems to give women less than men (saw this while I was there). Several customers, upon finding out that nothing was ready, just left. Some others left when there was no acknowledgement by the young woman behind the counter (she was too busy with her phone). Pro tip: as a restaurant, adjust your hours if you aren't actually ready - those who walked out will be unlikely to return. Restroom has a key on a stick, which is somewhat gross (how are you avoiding spreading contaminants?). Overall, as much as I love Jamaican food, this place left me utterly...
Read moreWe went there for dinner one day prior to going to Mount Rushmore and let me tell you one thing- if you want to feel the taste of home cooked food as well as want to try out Jamaican cuisine for the first time I’d definitely highly recommend this place. Hands down the best home cooked Jamaican food I’ve ever had. I wish I could go there frequently. The lady that was serving there was such an amazingly wonderful person, all my friends including me felt motherly affection from her. She’s an extremely caring and nice lady. We love how kind and generous you are ma’am. And best oxtail I’ve ever tasted 🤩
FYI- I’m reviewing this place after 1.5 years of my trip so this should tell you ‘how lazy I’m’ and how amazing this place is that I still remembered them and...
