Last evening our group of 5 stopped in ar OBD / Red Bank to have a donut & coffee following a terrific meal at Beijing Bistro. It was our first time there, a muggy night before Labor Day (a 3-day weekend for most people) & it was 8:50 PM. Before asking any of us what we would like, we were immediately informed by the girl behind the counter who apparently had never encountered customers just before closing that the kitchen was closed, there was only iced coffee available (no decaf) & they were closing in 10 minutes. Understood loud & clear - we get it. You want to go home and you really want us to leave now (although there remained cleaning up to do). Still wanting something sweet, we switched gears, all deciding on their ice cream instead as a quick second choice. Counting our group, there were about 12-15 people left in the store while we paid for and ate our desserts (I mean, how long does it take to eat a cone?) when another scantily-clad girl (her shorts were more like a thong) with the shared snotty attitude began stacking the metal chairs on top of the empty tables & deliberately SLAMMING them down on top of each other as hard as possible, each slam intended to startle as much as it could. Remember, we had been told only a few minutes earlier that they're closing. A few more customers wandered in (after all this and no employee had locked the door yet?), the music was turned off and we were once again informed at 9:05 that they were closed. The ice cream was excellent, but sadly none of us will ever go back there ever again. Ladies, there was no need to throw us out - you let us & others in, you allowed us to buy something - but then wouldn't allow us 10 minutes to consume it inside on a warm night? Clueless, rude employees representing the absentee owner ruin hard-won reputations & cost good businesses money by sending the message that last-minute customers (& their tips) aren't wanted. Too bad our $30. didn't matter. UPDATE: As of today (Sept. 22nd) we have yet to have a response of any kind from the owners (or the apparently invisible manager that night who should have nipped this childish behavior in the bud) who allegedly care about their reputation & have had a chance to confirm our story by watching the security video recording from that night. We're not haters (we rave about places when they deliver on their mission), but just interested in sharing an honest review. Perhaps it's crickets from management because they feel they have to defend their young employees above all, rather than educate them in the importance of being smart, polite, professional & a good representative of the brand as part of their employment. It's our opinion that anything less is a failure to properly run a business, & that's squarely on...
Read moreLiterally never write negative reviews. Had the WEIRDEST experience there today. My friend was here from out of town. I have been raving about this place since she is gluten free and their desserts are objectively amazing. Since she just had surgery I RAN to Once Bitten to get an order in before they closed. Truly the ONLY thing the girl at the counter said was that I have a minute to decide. She gave the biggest attitude and was clearly annoyed. When my friends walked in a few seconds behind me it was the same "you have one minute" attitude. We learned that they didnt have gluten free that time of night since they were closing (fair) but she was beyond obnoxious and the two girls were literally mocking us as we left.
Upon leaving my friends and I were talking about what an awful experience we had - and I then saw the owner outside who decided to berate us and said he heard us saying ridiculous things about the girl (saying that we wanted to smash something in a minors face???). The first thing that came out of his mouth (in a quite threatening tone) was that he reviewed video footage when he heard us talking outside, and he said they did absolutely nothing wrong & defended their attitude, & pressed us for what demeaning comments were made from them. We tried to walk away several times since he was getting quite heated, but he kept yelling at us to come back because he said we wanted to elevate to an owner. Truly an out of body experience that he was yelling at us on the street...
But looking at other reviews, it seems their "closing procedure" and attitude are a common...
Read moreAWESOME BUSINESS SHOUT OUT!! Let me start by saying that I’m 8.5 months pregnant. This morning, my in-laws were coming over and my 2 & 3 year requested donuts. I placed an order on Door Dash to Once Bitten Donuts in Red Bank. DoorDash unfortunately printed off a tiny receipt with little numbers to the store, and a minor mistake was made while packing my order. I ordered 8 donuts coming to a total of $48 after taxes, delivery fees and driver tip. To my disappointment, I opened the front door and found a tiny box of just 2 donuts 😱 Yikes…my kids were super upset, this was their big treat and they were looking forward to sharing with their grandparents. I was also disappointed because … well, yeah I’m super pregnant!! 😂 Anyways, I contacted DoorDash through the app and they were not helpful … I have no idea why, but I kept getting a message on the app saying they would investigate the issue, nothing else. No further options. So I called the Once Bitten Donuts store and kindly asked if they could contact DoorDash as well. The staff called me right back asking for my address, I said I really would be fine with a future credit, but they insisted. The owner then DROVE TO MY HOUSE 20 mins from their store and hand delivered the box of missing donuts, AND ALSO a box of beautifully decorated donuts. Totally blown away. They did the right thing and went over the top. Thank you so much Once Bitten Donuts!! Not only do you have the BEST donuts on the planet, but they just saved the day for this pregnant mama! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! Once Bitten...
