My husband and I stopped by this Sunday afternoon around 2pm for a late lunch. When we stepped in, the hostess was seating someone else waiting and when she returned she didn’t even acknowledge us until I made eye contact and asked where we could sit. We thought we were going to miss the lunch crowd but the place was moderately packed. Only 1 open table that I saw so we asked if we could sit at the bar. The hostess said “yeah I think so, she can help you” pointing at the woman behind the bar. Super weird. We sat and were greeted by the woman that was clearly standing in for the normal bartender. She was very nice though and took our drink order and handed it off to one of the waitresses who was clearly very new. When she returned to take our order I asked if they had ceviche today and she looked at me and shrugged her shoulders and said “I don’t know” then my husband asked if they had a steak and chicken fajita combo and she gave us the same answer. Very unaware of the menu options which is odd bc it’s not like it was an extensive menu. After placing our order 15 minutes goes by and I asked our waitress how much longer and she replied “oh it’s ready, I’ll go get it”!!! Who knows how long it was ready for. I ordered the ceviche and the presentation was great although it was super bland and appeared to be boiled shrimp with pico. Really bland. The fajitas were pretty good. Probably a 3 out of 5. A bit chewy but the homemade tortillas made up for it. They were delicious. We asked for the check and the waitress dropped it off and said she would be right back with a pen. We never saw her again. Overall we might be back but we’re definitely not in a hurry. Hopefully it’s just a few new kinks they’ll work out.
Note to owners: your staff was very uneducated about the menu and the hostess was completely unwelcoming and very disinterested in her job. She needs to remove her earphones and pay a little more attention to being the first face and impression people see and make when they step...
Read moreFriday busy evening here after hearing great things about this place. Hugo’s failed to meet my expectations sadly. They offer Mexican/Tex-mex favorites and are pretty affordable with entrees ranging from $10-20 each. They even have pork tamales on the menu. Ordered the steak fajitas with an a’la carte enchilada. For the enchiladas, they offer whatever type of sauce you could want, from tomatillo to Chile con carne. The steak fajita was the only reason I gave 2 stars as it was so tender and juicy that my mother who is missing half of her teeth was able to enjoy the steak effortlessly. Between mom and I, we had beef, cheese, and chicken enchiladas- all which were very bland and had over cooked tortillas (hard). The rice and refried beans were not good at all either, and they do not offer black beans. The chips and salsa was decent and served in some beautiful carafe type dish. We sat in Anayale’s section in the busy restaurant and the service was not great. After receiving the wrong order and informing her that the order was incorrect, we were met with a “uh, let me take some orders from the other tables and I’ll be back”. She didn’t come back for a little bit and then finally we received the correct order, but by that time my food was already demolished. Not sure if she was caught off guard by the mix-up or what, but an apology for the mix up would’ve went a long way. Either way, if you’re in town, there are far better Mexican...
Read moreI do not understand why people are saying this is authentic. Those people must have not ever eaten authentic Mexican food. I can cook better Mexican food at home and so can my daughter. The best thing that I had here was the beer. The chips were slightly stale and the queso and salsa were mediocre at best.
I asked the waiter if he could bring me some fresh diced jalapenos and he said they don't do that there. Really?! He was like they will cut them into circles, but not dice them smaller. WOW! It would have taken the same amount to slice them as it would dice them.
The food was a very generic Tex-Mex and not the good kind of Tex-Mex. We got the sampler platter and nothing looked homemade, even the tamale, which claims to be homemade.
I recognized one of the waitresses (she knew my husband) that use to work at another local restaurant in Red Oak that I tried to talk to, but apparently she was to good to do that. Or maybe she is holding on to a secret that she doesn't want me to find out about (Yes I am calling her out).
If I decide to go back to this location it would be only to have a beer. I can't believe people think that this I great food. It will go out of business like...
