If I only knew about this place sooner... but then i'd be a lot more poor as I've been searching so long for a good Chinese restaurant on the east side. Albeit the Asian food scene has started to gain some traction over here thanks to all the tech companies bringing a higher demand for ethnic foods in general. There are a few that have stood the test of time but variety is the spice of life and that's where Sichuanese Cuisine comes in. Now they do have a Seattle location in which I've never been, the lower star ratings that SC has now, seems to have reflected their old location from years ago. All that being said - we are here, living in the now. And I will say for someone that has grown up eating Asian food all my life, SC's food HITS! They have a very extensive menu and I will not hesitate to try the rest of it when time and my stomach allows, but for now these are the items I can vouch for:
Mongolian Beef - if it's on the menu, i will order it, mainly because I love beef and secondly because if you can nail this dish, the rest will surely follow. And nail it they did! Many places that fail do so because there's more onions than beef. Others will load it up with hoisin sauce and call it Mongolian beef. SC puts a bit of a sichuan spin on it but the order I received was loaded with delicious slices of beef, cooked to perfection with loads of flavor. Highly recommended!
Mandarin Spicy Chicken - it's like a higher class general tsao meets orange chicken... like literally the two most popular items at any chinese restaurant right? But this one is better. The breading to chicken ration is perfect, the chicken bits are tender and juicy. You can still taste the chicken, you can still taste the batter and you can enjoy the sweet and subtly spicy sauce. It was so good, i took the sauce to spread it all over my rice to eat more of it!
Sichuan boiled fish - such a classic dish for sichuanese cuisine in general. filet of fish boiled in a spicy sichuan sauce until it becomes so tender it falls apart and then melts away in your mouth. Now I've had this dish at other establishments many times - though most all good, many of them over do the sichuan peppercorns and your mouth is all tingly and numb from that signature spice. But SC has found a great balance, you can feel the tingly, you get that numbing sensation but it doesn't over power the fish - making it an incredible dish!
Pea Vines - vastly underrated greens dish. the simplicity of this dish is what makes it amazing to me - have them toss it with a couple handfuls of garlic and you've got the best Asian greens dish ever... yea it's better baby bok choy. Pan sautee'd in sesame oil and some chicken broth to make it tastefully sweet and savory at the same time... i'm not sure if the dish is healthy any more but it's so damn good!
All the dishes range from $10 - $15 from what I saw and all portions are definitely traditional family style portions so one dish can easily feed two to three people so order accordingly. I am very much looking forward to coming back and trying out the rest...
Read moreWent with extended family and friends and ordered a medley of items to share family style. Attached photo shows a little of most things, which was plenty for a group of six, with some leftovers to take home. I had roughly three times what is shown here over seven dishes, plus beef fried rice. All was shared between the six of us.
In addition to the more exclusive items, many other dish options allow for a dinner that's as Americanized or as Traditional as you'd like. Walnut shrimp, black pepper and salt fish, Mongolian beef, and others are available for those who prefer it.
Schezwanese focused items with Schezwan peppercorns were my favorite, but not so much for those not familiar to it. That said, it was exactly what it should be! The 'heat' is very different, a bit floral, and will linger for a while. If you're not used to the numbing spice of Schezwan peppercorns, give it a try, but be prepared!
DO ask for more spice or heat if you want it. The chef was awesome in cranking things up a notch for me, and even told me later that most people don't care for spice that's too strong. I have a feeling some reviewers expecting super spicy foods and didn't get them, never truly asked - remember that here in WA, it's more likely people will complain more if they 'think' a food is too spicy! It's also always easier to add spice and heat than to remove it. I always ask for 5/5 or 'Indian spicy', depending on the restaurant, to get the heat I want.
Good heat levels across the board. I asked for some chili oil and pepper to add to my dishes and the wait staff was very kind and generous in providing it, so I could add it to the foods that others didn't want spicy.
Great tofu, eggplant, and noodle options, according to my vegetarian company that went with me. Ask waiter about substitutions and what can be removed to make dishes vegetarian.
Atmosphere may be a bit lacking, but I personally prefer it this way. It's much quieter as a result and the need to talk over music or others isn't nearly as bad. I rated it a bit lower only because most others prefer some level...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer of your restaurant for over ten years and have visited multiple times a week. Over time, I have unfortunately seen a decline in the quality of customer service. What used to be a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience has become frustrating and disappointing.
Recently, I brought my mother-in-law for dinner, expecting the same level of hospitality I was once used to. To my surprise, the service was extremely poor. We were not even offered water, and the staff was inattentive throughout the entire visit. When I went to pay the bill, the waiter, who wears round glasses and a Fear of God Essentials T-shirt, demanded a tip despite the complete lack of service. When I expressed my concern, I was rudely told not to come back again. I was completely disrespected and left shocked by the behavior I experienced.
This was not just an isolated incident. I have noticed similar issues during recent visits, and after checking online reviews, it appears that other customers have also had problems with this same waiter. As someone who has supported your business for over a decade, I feel compelled to speak up.
I strongly encourage the owner or management team to take a serious look at this situation. This kind of treatment is not only unprofessional but unethical. Demanding tips without providing service and disrespecting loyal customers will ultimately drive people away. If this continues, the business is at real risk of losing its loyal customer base and possibly shutting down.
Please take this feedback seriously and take appropriate action to ensure that the service returns to the standard that made this restaurant successful in...
