I'm just going to call it up front: BEST Szechuan Popcorn Chicken in town. Swimming in a pool of dried chilis, it is very spicy. Spicier than I would typically tolerate, but it's the flavor that keeps me from stopping. Crispy, spicy, numbing, and savory. It is chef's kiss. My favorite item here.
The House Special Szechuan is also very good. It's probably big enough for 4 portions. You get to choose 2 meats and 2 veggies to go with the fish. For the meats, I chose lamb and beef based on another review. I was a little skeptical about the combination of fish and meat, but I'm glad I trusted the review because it turned out pretty good. For veggies, I chose bean curd and A Choy because I like those, but I'm sure you can't go wrong with any veggie. I very much appreciate that you can not only select a spice level, but also a numbing level. While I love those numbing Sichuan peppercorns, I don't want to overpower the dish.
For dessert, Golden Buns with Condensed Milk. There were 6 buns that were steamed, then fried. The outside was crispy while the inside was fluffy. The combination of friedness and sweet, condensed milk made for a perfect end of the meal.
This review was based on a takeout order I made through the Order Togo app. The order was completed at the time specified and the worker was very friendly. Parking is in a plaza that could get crowded during certain times, but the day/time that I picked it up it there was...
Read moreI recently visited here on a local friend’s recommendation, and it was a surprisingly delightful experience. The star of the show was undoubtedly the Sichuan Peppercorn Stone Pot Fish. I was initially worried about the fish having a lot of bones, but it was perfectly prepared, with no small bones at all. This allowed me to fully savor the authentic flavors of the soup—the fragrant, numbing spice of the peppercorns—without having to worry about picking out bones. It was a fantastic dining experience from start to finish. Beyond the signature dish, the Mapo Tofu also left a deep impression. The intense aroma and spicy kick were incredibly satisfying and made it an excellent pairing with a bowl of rice. The Spicy Fried Pork Intestine was another unexpected highlight. The pork intestine was perfectly fried to a crispy texture, which added a wonderful layer of crunch without any greasiness. The flavors of all the dishes were truly top-notch. The only minor letdown was the large table, which didn't have a lazy Susan, so we had to frequently switch dishes to let everyone try everything. I would highly recommend the restaurant consider adding a traditional Chinese round table with a lazy Susan to make the dining experience even more perfect. Overall, every dish at La Po Po was flawless, from the preparation to the flavors. It's a restaurant I would definitely visit again and highly recommend to anyone who...
Read moreThis place opened recently. My friend and I were going to head to IHOP but decided to try it out. It was quite a different experience. The inside feels like of an old industrial new York and Beijing neon. It's a very unique asthenic and it's pretty nice.
They serve you lemon water when you first sit. The menu has a variety of options and they have a popo option which is like hot pot, and you select meats and vegetables. They also have entrees beverages and some other sweet options.
I personally had the chonqing gingered rabbit, pickled pepper beef, and Szechuan chicken. It was also very wonderful. Not my top Szechuan place, but definitely very good and I will be returning. Be aware the spicy items were indeed spicy but so worth it.
The pickled pepper beef was a little on the saltier side but was perfectly fine with rice. And the rabbit had wonderful flavors but was difficult to eat with all the bones( but that's how rabbit is usually served so it's fine), and the chicken was good. It wasn't too interesting.. i was expecting some Szechuan pepper corns in it but there was no numbing. But the chicken was still good and enjoyable.
They serve in some pretty wooden/cast iron serving items, one was a bicycle another was a shovel. It feels unnecessary and takes up more room than necessary on the table, but it wasn't too bad... But it...
