Amateur hour! we were so excited to try this new steak house in Redondo and thought it's perfect timing for my birthday. The 2 of us reserved a table for this evening, the hostess was very nice and sat us right away. That was the highlight and then it's straight downhill from there. Let's start from the interior, it was nice (but not great, it's a 3), the restroom still has double sided tapes stuck all over between the clear panel and the wall. The food was so-so, we also give it a generous 3 out of 5. We ordered raw oysters, a wedge salad, and shared a Tomahawk with garlic fries. The waiter came out and laid down the rule, this is how we order things here! WOW! Ok, so we put in our cocktails and ordered each a glass of white wine for our oysters, but he said he was told that he can't bring us our wine until the oysters arrive, interesting. We asked about the oysters and he said they have only 1 kind from Baja which we never had before so we asked him how big and texture etc., he told us they're large. When he brought them out, they were small like the Kumomoto oysters but they serve it in a white creamy sauce and chives on it. Can I tell you how disgusting this was. Raw seafood and dairy is never a thing. First of all, after waiting all that long and no one came out with tableware. We had to flag a waiter to bring it to us. The wedge was served first and it was disappointing. A baby wedge with smothering heavy thick cream sauce, soggy pancetta and bread crumbs, loaded with blue cheese. And so it goes, we ordered a Tomahawk medium rare which means it should be pink and reddish inside, but it wasn't, it was more medium and dry. We had ordered a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon to pair with our steaks, and when the waiter brought it out he didn't show us the bottle like most restaurants, but instead he was struggling trying to open the bottle, then just poured it straight in to a decanter and then ran off, very odd. The garlic fries never came. What we had learned later was that the garlic fries were delivered to the guests next to us. Our waiter never checked back in with us to see if we need anything. This is not what you'd expect from a high end steakhouse. The manager never came around to inquire about our experience. We watched him circling around with other guests, a dark hair man in a black suit, so we tried to get his attention by waiving our hands. He looked at us and gave us a finger gestures of his thumb and finger squeezing together, I guess that means he will be with us momentarily. Nope, he completely ignored us. We were there for another 15 minutes waiting for our check, and he never came over. It's a $500 dinner for 2, you'd expect better food and better service. On our way out, we had mentioned the rudeness of the manager to the hostess, she was apologetic and introduced us to one of the owners who stood by the podium, a blonde woman in her late 50s. We told her about our experience and that the manager wouldn't acknowledge us but in fact he ignored us completely. You'd think as the owner she would be sympathetic and concerned and perhaps extend some kind of apologies. NOPE. What she said was condescending to say the least. "have you dined in Beverly Hills?" she asked. What does that have to do with how rude her manager was or the lack of service or the terrible food in her restaurant? I simply replied yes of course, and we have dined all over the world in fact. We're foodies and we love to travel. While we understand that when opening a new restaurant, there could be a few hiccups but this is just plain incompetent rude management to badly trained staff, and over priced mediocre foods at best, and apparently the owner doesn't care about...
Read moreRecently went to The Rex in Redondo Beach, we had been there several times over the past few years and had great experiences. However, after our last visit, we will NEVER return!
Made reservations and when asked if a special occasion I stated it was my wife’s birthday. Started out with Cesar and wedge salad that were drowning in dressing but did not let that phase us. We each ordered filet mignon. My wife is particular about the cooked temperature of her steak and as stated on the menu, she made her request and was very clear of what she wanted and the waiter, Francisco, agreed. In fact, her request was like the previous times we dined here and each time the filet was cooked to perfection. This time however, when her steak came out it was significantly undercooked, and we kindly requested it go back to the grill. Meanwhile I sat there waiting to start my meal while I waited for her steak to be cooked as instructed. When her steak came back it had not changed much at all and was still very undercooked. The steak went back a third time and came back looking like charcoal, ridiculous and unacceptable! I believe it was the manager who brought it out and had the nerve to try to serve it. The entire meal, mine included, was ruined and an awful experience. My wife enjoyed watching me eat my heavily salted filet and cold side dishes, what a pleasant birthday dinner.
At the end of the miserable experience, the waiter said with a sarcastic grin, “you know honestly the cooks are human and make mistakes and every night there is always one table that gets their order messed up and unfortunately you are the unlucky table tonight.” What kind of excuse or response is that? When we finally got the bill, they only took off her steak and charged us for everything else, no comp on drinks or any other discount! Absurd! In fact, they didn’t even bring out a birthday desert nor even acknowledge her birthday. A total waste of money. A professional restaurant operator would have comp’d the entire meal and not...
