Redwood City, Bay Area | Is the Michelin-recommended Indonesian restaurant worth the hype?

This is one confusing place. I have no idea what they are going for - whether it be Japanese tapas, yakitori, dim sum or everything in between. And in that confusion, I don't think anythink is really nailed. And with the price they charge as the cusomters wander around in their minds chewing on a mixture of food without a storyline, they forget how ridiculously expensive each dish is. At least when you spend on Costco, you are surprised about the price but you walk out with a lot. At Brochette, you leave confused what all was so "expensive". At some point in the past, someone must've had an idea to do phenomenal, high quality Japanese tapas and serve it in a hip East Asian cocktail/beer bar setting. I can see vestiges of that vision. But it has gone really astray. First, in a high quality Japanese tapas place, you do not serve a hamachi carparccio that is literally frozen. 4 pieces of frozen ice hamachi for $17. And then you get this scallion pancake designed like a taco with ground yakiniku beef. Again, brilliant in concept yet a single piece for $10. The dim sums were quite good surprisingly. The xialong bao's weren't overwhelming with grease and I couldn't tell whether the hargow, siumai and the chashu bao was made at the restaurant or purchase frozen from somewhere. Either way, it was pretty good to accompany beer. What really knocked everything over the fence was the ribeye steak on a hot stone. $38 for a cardboard chewing ribeye experience - probably had to be of the lowest beef grade - where it is served on a hot stone so it keeps cooking. Think about it. You order medium rare and it comes out medium rare, only to be well done by the 3rd bite. Why? Why not just warm the stone just a bit? Why even a stone? I can absolutely see that the place means well. But this place is rapidly falling apart. There are too many tapas, sashimi, dim sum places around the Bay Area for folks to fall into this pitfall. Won't be returning.

Went for late lunch there - interesting menu with yakitori, dim sum, congee, dumplings etc. All things that I love! They have lunch specials, either ramen+dumplings for $20 or congee+Chinese donut for $15. I opted for seafood congee (add$1) and wanted to try haw gau ($11/3 dumplings) and a couple of oysters ($2/oyster) - oysters were fresh, delish - they have $1/oyster for Happy Hour so am excited to try that! The haw gau was hot, shrimp filling was good - only nit I would say is that no soy or hot sauce on the table. The seafood congee came in a pretty good sized bowl, and I asked for some white pepper and they brought in a small condiment bowl, so would suggest they get some bottles to put the pepper in rather than let customers use fingers, but that’s a small nit. The seafood in congee was shrimp, clams; plenty of seafood and the congee was well seasoned. The donut in the congee soaked up the porridge and was delish! Also had a glass of Calpico Lychee; service was great- wish these guys luck! Would definitely be back to try other items on the menu!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Brochette, and I must say that Jonathan and the entire culinary experience exceeded all expectations. From start to finish, our evening was nothing short of extraordinary.

The menu at Brochette offers a diverse range of delectable options, and we decided to indulge in a variety of dishes. First up were the grilled skewers, and I must say, they were a revelation. The meats were perfectly seasoned and charred to perfection, leaving us craving for more with each bite. The skewers were a sensational start to our meal.

Next, we ventured into the realm of steaks, and once again, Brochette did not disappoint. The steaks were cooked to absolute perfection, each bite melting in our mouths like butter. The quality of the meat and the precision in cooking were unparalleled, making it a steak lover's dream come true.

To add a touch of diversity to our culinary adventure, we also ordered the dim sum. These delicate, flavorful parcels of goodness were a delightful surprise. The dumplings were masterfully crafted, bursting with flavor, and served with dipping sauces that complemented them perfectly. It was a symphony of tastes that left us enchanted.

Now, let's talk about the service. Jonathan, our waiter, was an absolute gem. He went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was nothing short of perfection. His knowledge of the menu, recommendations, and attention to detail were truly commendable. It's rare to find such dedicated and passionate staff who genuinely care about their guests' satisfaction.

The ambiance at Brochette was also exceptional, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. The cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere added an extra layer of charm to our dining experience.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a dining experience that transcends the ordinary, Brochette and Jonathan are the perfect choices. Every aspect, from the tantalizing food options to the impeccable service, is nothing short of excellent. I can't wait to return to Brochette for another unforgettable culinary journey. It's a place where gastronomic dreams come true, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an exceptional...
