Last minute room fine in Palo Alto...

Not for business travel. My review is based on the $239/night rate that my company was charged for my 2 day stay for a site visit. I found this experience to be lackluster (particularly for the price) and more in line with a hostel rather than a hotel. I work in tech and found the tech was, in my opinion, poorly implemented to guest detriment. Check in: in a nutshell, if you never receive check-in instructions via text, you will be stuck outside the hotel indefinitely (this happened to me). After traveling 7+ hours, I arrived at Kasa Niche and found a locked exterior door and sign with a QR code and phone number. I called the number and kept getting an error. Tried the QR code and kept getting an error. I was stuck outside for over 15 mins with my luggage until a fellow guest took pity on me and let me in. An older lady was in the lobby. I explained I had been unable to check-in and she said that was because they hadn't been able to send me a text as the booking was made by my company. My cell phone number was included in my booking so not sure why there was an issue. She walked me to my room, asked IT to send me a text and then, an hour later, had to manually send me the code for the outside door and my room. I was able to finally access check-in instructions on the website 3.5 hours later after many chats with the support team. The key issue is that Kasa Niche's system relies on technology which is far from perfect and can leave travelers stranded. Staff should monitor the cameras outside and help guests that can't get in. I later realized I was lucky to run into staff when I first arrived as I never saw staff again for the remainder of my visit. This experience felt like an experiment more than a business that charges normal hotel prices. The owners appear to have tried to squeeze staffing expenses out of a hotel at the expense of guest experience, even potentially leaving guests stranded outside. Room: Clean, small and contemporary. Uncomfortable bed and pillows. Room has a smart tv and you stream from your own device and use your own apps. If you run out of anything, you must get your own supplies from a storage closet and text for the code to access supplies. Room and hotel were very clean which was pleasantly surprising as I never saw cleaning staff. This place has thin walls and I routinely could hear other guests' tv and loud snoring almost as if it was in the same room. There was a handwritten note in the room which I found odd. Location: great location- a block from downtown- bars, restaurants. Overall, this place isn't for me. People that have been traveling for several hours don't want to troubleshoot basic tech issues for hours just to enter their hotel room while paying full hotel prices. I also couldn't get a good night's sleep due to the uncomfortable bed and pillows and significant noise which impacted my ability to perform at my best for the site visit.

I’m staying at the Kasa Niche Hotel here in Redwood City for work, and I have nothing but positive things to say so far. I didn‘t choose my hotel, my company did, but I am super pleased with it! It‘s a virtual front desk check in, so everything is done from your phone before you get there. I wasn’t sure how it would work, but it ended up being super easy! Right before check in time I was sent a code for the front door and a code for my room. I had no trouble getting in, the common area was modern, clean and well lit. It reminded me of a nice apartment complex— each room had a touch screen key pad to type in your code. I found my room easily and my code worked. There is no elevator, so if you’re in a second story room it is stairs only (no luggage carts). My room was modern, well lit, clean and stocked with some waters. I was seriously so impressed with how nice everything was. The room is small with a king bed and small desk, but it’s perfect for a work trip. It had a fridge, a large tv, and was stocked with an alarm clock/sound machine/iron in the drawers. The bathroom was clean, updated with trendy finishes and had a cool light up mirror. There is a staff member who is usually around cleaning/tidying who is super friendly, she asked if I needed any help getting in and made sure I got into my room when I was fumbling my room code one day. It was very quiet at night and I didn’t hear anyone in nearby rooms. Overall extremely impressed and I’d definitely stay here again if ever in the area!

I loved Kasa Niche! The room I had was clean and modern. The price was fantastic and allowed me to visit my new great granddaughter for the week of Christmas. It is definitely a different experience than a hotel. For one, the virtual check-in. The only problem really that occurred was that when I got there (and they do have an unload zone right in front) I accidentally locked my car keys and phone in my car when I had just gotten my last load of stuff to carry up. Not having the key code to get in created a problem in addition to it being around 4 pm on Christmas Eve. I didn't have a phone to call to get assistance from them but stopped and got a nice man going into the underground parking lot to call them for me. I'm not sure if he ever did get through because he had things to do and said he would stay on hold after 15 min. and tell them I was locked out. I eventually managed to catch the door as someone else went in. And quite luckily remembered the code to my room so I was able to charge up my Mac air and call AAA to get in my car. All in all it just takes a little adjustment to get used to a more modern technological way to do things but well worth it for a better priced accommodation. They have mini-splits in the room and although I was unable to get a room with a bathtub, the shower was nice and big. They also had just gotten a new single use coffee machine downstairs that was supplied with Dove hot chocolate, Peet's coffee, green tea and other choices. They had a basket of banana's to help yourself to. The microwave was in the lobby with a breakfast bar, paper plates and silverware. The ice machine was also on the ground floor (2 levels) and had filtered water so you were able to use the water pitcher provided in your room to have good water to drink. After my mishaps upon check-in I had no problem asking questions and getting an immediate response. You do have to pay for parking but due to free Parking on Christmas I only paid $22.75 for the entire week I was there. Another nice thing was that your code did not expire right away on the day I checked out like it always does in every hotel I have stayed at. The staff that was there during the day were very pleasant and helpful. One way they cut down on costs is by not having daily maid service which suits me just fine. There was a linen closet in the hallway on my floor that I had access to more towels if I needed them and they had a laundry room with free washers and dryers for my convenience. I truly enjoyed my stay there, especially the price and technological advances popping up around us. It was well thought out and I was impressed with simple, better functioning, cost effective solutions and vibrant decoration of the room. I most certainly will look for accommodation's through Kasa Niche before any other commercial hotel accommodations.. Also, the security level of the Kasa was far better than any other place with key cards that I've stayed at, just don't lock your phone and keys...

Convenient, Clean, and Communicative – A Great Stay at Kasa Niche

We had a great stay at Kasa Niche in Redwood City. The hotel is conveniently located right in the heart of downtown, within easy walking distance of plenty of restaurants, bars, and the historic Fox Theatre. It was the perfect spot for our night out—we were heading to a show at Club Fox, and the venue was just a few minutes away on foot. If you're looking to have a fun night out without worrying about driving, this location is ideal.

Check-in was a breeze once we got the hang of the keypads. From start to finish, Kasa sent helpful messages with detailed instructions on how to access the building and our room, as well as how to reach them via text if we needed anything. There was also a staff member on-site that evening. Although we never saw them, it was reassuring to know someone was physically present.

I really appreciated the DIY-style check-in process, and Kasa made it feel easy and supported through constant, clear communication. It struck a great balance between independence and attentiveness.

We stayed in a room at the front of the hotel, directly above the entrance. While the location made it easy to enjoy the surrounding nightlife, it also meant we could hear people talking as they passed by on the sidewalk below. If you're a light sleeper or sensitive to noise, this may not be the best room choice. That said, the hotel thoughtfully provides earplugs and a sound machine, which helped. Another consideration: the window coverings let in a fair amount of light, even when fully closed, so those who prefer total darkness might want to ask if any rooms come with blackout curtains.

The bed was firm—we're used to something softer at home—but it was perfectly fine for a one-night stay. The room itself was spotless. Housekeeping clearly does an excellent job and didn’t miss a thing. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches: bottled water, a couple of small snacks, and a welcome note from the staff made the stay feel personalized. The room was well-equipped with a mini pod coffee maker, a water carafe with filtered water, an ice bucket, a mini fridge, hairdryer, and an iron.

While the hotel doesn’t have its own parking lot, metered public parking is available nearby, including a lot directly behind the building and a few others within easy walking distance. There's also a loading zone out front, which made it convenient to drop off our things before parking.

All in all, we had a great experience and would absolutely stay at Kasa Niche again. It’s a smart, modern option for anyone wanting to enjoy downtown Redwood City with comfort and...
