Carnitas El Rincon — Restaurant in Redwood City

Carnitas was reasonably ok (good flavor, not too salty, a bit on the dry side for my taste), but service was not great.

I drove by past Carnitas El Rincon on my way to an errand on a Saturday right around lunch time and wanted to give it a shot. I tried calling in for a take-out order from where I was, but nobody picked up so I hopped back in my car and drove over.

When I arrived at around 12:30PM there were 4-5 other parties waiting for their orders when I walked in the door, but there was no wait to order. I asked for a Super Burrito and then waited 20-25 minutes before the order was ready.

When I returned home, I found that the cheese and avocado was missing and confirmed that I ordered a super burrito, but was uninterested in driving back to rectify...

I recently visited and had an experience I’ll never forget—but not for the right reasons.

While ordering my food, I noticed pigeons inside the kitchen. They weren’t just passing through; they were walking around in the back, eating scraps off the floor. Shockingly, the workers didn’t seem to care at all.

As if that wasn’t enough, while waiting for my food in the dining area, a mouse boldly walked in through the front door in the middle of the day. Yes, in broad daylight. The dining room was packed, and nobody seemed to notice or react. I’ve never seen anything like this before—it was truly unsettling.

That said, the food itself was pretty good, but the cleanliness (or lack thereof) is a huge concern. I’m not sure I’d come back after witnessing...

This is a very cozy and special restaurant nestled behind the downtown in Redwood City surrounded by many other small businesses and Caltrain Sequoia station. The setting is perfect for a great and tasty meal as we experience today, the salsas are superb and the service is marvelous. The owner was there to greet us and share the history behind her restaurant and a little bit about her upcoming book, which really sounds terrific. It's easy to miss since it's nestled around many other businesses along el Camino Real, but make sure you look for it find it and enjoy spectacular meal. I am definitely coming back for a lunch or dinner and other meals in the future... Oh! and the price is very very...
