In February 2020, I suffered a schizophrenic mental breakdown here on this small but beautiful public park in downtown Redwood City. I had gone two weeks without sleep while desperately trying to get a job at Google. I was so exhausted after four years of being unemployed that my breaking point was reached that afternoon underneath the redwoods here. A sympathetic bystander called 911 on my behalf, and a San Mateo County motorcycle office arrived to ensure that I was not in danger of harming myself or others. Then, a special police van arrived to escort me to a nearby behavioral crisis center. It saved my life. Now, when I return to this park, all I feel is calmness and serenity. I am so glad for public parks like this and for well trained and professional police officers who know how to deescalate situations that otherwise could go terribly wrong. I am a white gender non-binary person born male, and maybe that helped. But all I know is this place is sacred...

❇️Mezes Park is a hidden gem in Redwood City's Centennial neighborhood.

🌈Playstructures are well-maintained and my kids loved the 🧡vibrant color of the structure.

🛝Disc, belt and bucket swings, toddler playhouse, a teeter totter and a mild bouncy feature within the play structure.

👍I loved that the playareas for different ages are integrated into one compact playground. This helps adults to keep an eye on multiple kids easily. 🪑Benches for caregivers to relax and watch little ones play.

🌳It is a quiet park with ample shade around the playground. Perfect for summer playdates!

🎖️There is a special feature here, a retired United States Army M-5 Stuart tank at the far corner of the park stands tall in honor of those who served in the world wars.

🧺Picnic tables, 🎾tennis courts, 🏀half basketball court and 🌿grassy area to run and play.

🚻Yes (clean...

Parents can play with their kids in Mezes Park commonly called “tank park.” The park is named for Simon Mezes a lawyer from Spain and Puerto Rico who helped the Argüello family get legal title to "Rancho de las Pulgas" under U.S. law. Mezes donated the land for the park that is now guarded by a M5 Stuart light tank. The tank was brought to Redwood City from the depot aboard a San Mateo County Fire Department truck and trailer. It was presented to the city by the American Legion as a war monument. Other amenities at the park to enjoy as well but the tank is...

Brand new little kid area! Thanks to the efforts of amazing community members, the little kid area of the park has been completely redone and there are more improvements on the way like better lighting so kids can still play during winter evenings. The mural alongside the tennis courts was redone as well. This park is still one of our favorites. Bathrooms, picnic tables, and both playgrounds have a good amount of shade. There's a very sturdy WWII tank on the far corner of the park too that's pretty interesting too.
