Service is to the point, not exactly friendly. Don't expect the Mexican fuzzies. Feels closer to Hong Kong style service, though not quite so bad.
Food: Food here is solid. I almost always get the regular cabeza burrito. One thing about the cilantro and onions. They pre-mix these here. "You can't one w/o the o~ther..." Typical Calif style burrito. There's rice, whole pinto beans, cilantro/onions, salsa, and then the meat. My wife gets the Asada quesadilla, which comes w/ sour cream, lettuce, and a slice of tomato over cheese and meat sandwiched by soft flour tortillas. Finally, this is topped w/ their salsa. The KEY KEY standout here is the salsa. They have two, salsa verde (I believe made from tomatillo with a hint of oregano) which is their mild one, and the salsa roja which is their more spicy salsa (also judging from my taste buds, made from chipotle). The salsa have some kind of MSG added to them. It could be chicken bullion. Most likely it's chicken bullion, and it makes a HUGE HUGE difference. If you can't handle spice, I would definitely ask for the salsa on the side. Personally, it goes down great, but on the way out is a different story. They're a bit stingy w/ it if you ask for extra salsa. They will fill the salsa containers to ~40% full. So if you ask for more, they'll just use more containers. That makes no sense to me, but it's not my restaurant. Depending on who's serving you, you might get a dirty look thrown in free of charge.
Atmosphere: No frills. There's plenty of seating, though it can get crowded during meal times. Parking lot can also be crowded, though there is street parking. But street parking can also be crowded. You can always park across the street at Costco and...
Read moreI really like the food here, it gets 4.5+ stars but the cashier always treats me as if she's bored, doesn't like me and that I'm stupid. I don't think it's intentional...maybe... but that's how it comes across. I am generally happier if I see she's not behind the counter, which is rare.
But, I go anyway because I really like the food and it's close to Costco gas so... I'll keep going!
It's an authentic taqueria so these reviews that expect "sit down Mexican cuisine" are from another planet. That's not what you go to a taqueria for so don't expect it. I'd close down 1/2 the sit-down places if it meant more GOOD taquerias and El Grullense always delivers good food so I'll keep going back, despite the...
