Place is large with modern, inviting decor. Great holiday decorations. Very large outside eating area (for warmer weather).
The place was pretty empty on a weekday evening I assume due to being relatively new. Service was excellent. Menu is very large with a lot of options. Prices are a little on the high side for a Family Mexican Restaurant with entrees like Fajitas costing $19. Chips were not even room temperature and not great quality and green and red sauce were very small amounts and not very flavorful.
There were three of us and all our meals were just okay. I like to get the Chicken Mole at Mexican Restaurants as it is a complex recipe to create the sauce and really demonstrates the skills in the kitchen. Unfortunately although the portion size was decent, the chicken breast was overcooked and dry and the mole sauce was very unflavorful tasting almost like it was watered down compared to what I am used to at many other restaurants.
The portions are decent but piling on rice and beans is a cheap way to fill up the big plate. The Fajitas were overwhelmingly veggies with a small portion of meat. We could have just chosen badly on the menu but all three entrees were consistently lackluster. I believe it will just take a little time to tweak the food to justify the prices and with the great atmosphere and service it is deserving of 3.5 stars overall which I will round up to 4 assuming things will...
Read moreI can say with absolute certainty that this review is no exaggeration, the first ever time having this today and I'm leaving thinking about how fantastic it was. All we ordered for our entree was the trompo de pastor and my goodness was that a shock to us, not only did it come with the trompe (more than able to feed 3-4 people), but it also came with Queso Fundido, a plate of rice and beans and also a whole dish of dips and cheeses. The micheladas were absolutely delicious and the desserts (specifically the Flan and the Tres Leches) were so phenomenally creamy and flavorful that it's the only correct way to finish off the meal. And the best part of it was their mind bogglingly INSANE happy hour, which makes all beverages (yes all of them) and all food (again, every single food item) 40% OFF, FROM 2:30-5:30, EVERY DAY! Our entire order (the trompe, 2 micheladas, a soda, flan, and tres leches cake) was only ~$50! Which is insane when outside of happy hour the trompe itself is $45! Overall an absolutely phenomenal experience with incredible service from the employees and an amazing vibe from the beautiful music and fun decorations. I would absolutely recommend everyone to try this new location of Tacos Tijuana and treat themselves to...
Read moreThey are new. Or a newly revisited, old school restaurant from a former Reno restaurateur.
Glad to have you back Jose. This is a family run restaurant, Grandfather, Father, Daughter and some great grandchildren running around bussing tables.
As with anything they do, the food is a notch above. They have made some subtle advancements on some age old traditional menu items.
As for the margaritas, don't even get me started. AMAZING!!!
Glad you're back, happy to support this amazing family, that I call friends. But with that being said, if it was garbage, I'd let ya know. It's anything but, stop in, say hello and give them a chance.
Part of me is not wanting to leave this review, as if they gain the traction I know they will, I'll be waiting for a table. (It's worth the chance, to see them...
