Butchers Kitchen Char-B-Que – A Local Favorite for Authentic American BBQ in Reno
Looking for the best American BBQ in town? Butchers Kitchen Char-B-Que delivers. I stopped by on a busy Friday lunchtime, and the place was packed with groups enjoying their workday break—a clear sign of how popular this spot is among locals.
The menu is well-loved for its sandwiches, burgers, and burritos, which seemed to be on nearly every table. I went with the traditional BBQ, building a DIY plate. The brisket and tri-tip were perfectly tender and juicy, while the pork ribs had just the right amount of fat to keep them flavorful and could be pulled cleanly off the bone. Pairing the meat with a side and drink makes for a satisfying combo—I chose the roasted vegetables, a wonderful and healthy balance to the hearty BBQ.
To elevate the flavors, they offer three different kinds of BBQ sauces, kept warm in heated dispensers. This simple touch really enhances the BBQ items, letting you enjoy them in different styles.
The staff were welcoming and helpful with recommendations, and the overall vibe was casual and lively. The walls feature BBQ-themed paintings that add to the atmosphere, while TVs showing sports games make it a fun place to hang out. You’ll also find local magazines available for reading, reflecting the restaurant’s strong connection with the Reno community. There’s even a bar area for those looking to relax or kill some time.
Final Thoughts With its flavorful BBQ, tasty sauces, friendly service, and neighborhood charm, it’s no wonder Butchers Kitchen Char-B-Que has built such a strong reputation in Reno. A must-visit if you’re craving classic...
Read moreLet me start by saying I love BBQ. We came here with high expectations but we were sorely disappointed. The brisket however tender, was dry and had very little flavor. The chicken was over charred to the point of being dry and inedible. I was scared to eat the sausage after my first bite tasted fishy and it looked under cooked. The Mac and cheese was pretty good however.
After asking for the manager, the staff was reluctant to pass our request along. We were told the manager wouldn’t be able to come out for another 40 min. So after 5 minutes a girl comes out and asks what the problem was and we tell her. So she asks if we want them to remake the food or a refund. We politely asked for a refund since we couldn’t sit and wait another 30 min. The next thing we know another woman comes out, with an attitude, saying she’s the chef. So we tell her our concerns and she argues how we are wrong in our observations. We had a difference of opinion on what constitutes “charred” and burnt. You can’t just burn your food and call it charred because your restaurant is called “Char-b-que”. Long story short, we got a refund.
In summary, I wouldn’t waste your time or money. Not great food and worse service. If it weren’t for the very pleasant bartender, I would have given a 1 star for the service. You would be much better going to...
Read moreI came for the ground brisket burger and it was exceptional. On the menu, it's called The Meat Hook. In addition to the ground brisket burger patty (which is large), they place several pieces of Texas BBQ beef brisket, along with slaw and cheddar cheese on a buttered and toasted brioche bun. For a small charge, I added bacon. This was, in my opinion, the way to go. Here's why.
I don't like all those things together but I love them individually, so I ate the bacon first, then the slaw, then the brisket (with some help from the Smokey and Spicy BBQ sauce). All perfect. Then I added some mayo and the lettuce, tomato, and onions that came on the side to then enjoy a traditional burger made from exceptional meat. It was a full 5 star meal. The meat is simply phenomenal.
I will be back to try the pulled pork sandwich. I can verify that the beef brisket (moist, tender, smoked, and perfectly cooked) is outstanding and "Texas approved".
Last, I cannot let Eric's excellent customer service go unmentioned. He's a perfect example of friendly service.
So this is definitely the "go to" place in Reno for beef brisket and undoubtedly the best burger. This place hits the mark in more ways than one and is one of the crown jewels...
