Abysmal service!! The first time my wife and I went in, we were not greeted nor were we acknowledged and I had to go up to one of the employees and asked for a table. Our waitress provided one of the worst service we have ever had in a restaurant. She never came to check on us and did not want to provide any extra napkins or silverware. It looks like they are extremely careful to the point of exaggeration with their stuff. We asked for napkins, and the waitress looked at our table and then looked back to us and kind of gesturing that we each already had "one" so we don't need another! She never gave them to us! We asked another employee who was walking by our table and he went to the bar and got one and I do mean "one" single small square bar napkin and gave it to us! We waited several minutes at the end because no one would even give us the bill and I had to get up and find someone to ask for it. The food was not so good. We had the traditional papaya salad, but it was filled with a very strange brown shredded textured item that crumbled into the dish if you even try to take it out, it was disgusting. The main entries were about a 6 out of 10. We decided to give it another try on a different day. When we walked in, they would not allow us to sit at one of their booths and told us that we had to sit at one of those small tables in the middle of the aisle where everyone was waiting to get their Uber eats pickups. The waitress said that they had reservations for the remaining few booths. So my wife and I decided to order takeout. However, while waiting for the food we saw a family coming that did not have a reservation and they were allowed to sit at one of the booths! Anyway, we took our food and left. The third time we went in, we were not greeted at all and we were just sitting next to the door waiting for someone. So I finally got up and walked up to a waitress and asked her if we can sit at one of the booths. She said that was fine and my wife and I proceeded to sit. Then, another employee came out and yelled at the first one that I spoke with about the booth. Then they both came to us and said that we can't sit at the booth and we have to sit at one of the little tables again next to the aisle, because they had a bunch of reservations!! This was a complete lie because the restaurant was going to close in 45 minutes and something that doesn't make sense is not true. Three booths open and all were reserved 45 minutes before closing??!! The reason why they don't want to give booths is because they're so worried about maximizing their profits and they will not allow two people to sit in a booth! They're just waiting for a bigger group to serve!! We did not eat that night and we told them how bad their service were before leaving. The only reason why we even went back a couple times despite the extremely poor service was because it is within walking distance. Otherwise the food is mediocre but the service from the team members are extremely bad. No greeting, no acknowledging, no checking in to see how your food is, will not even give you napkins! Then when it's all over, hunt the person down for your bill!! If the owner really cares, they provide basic training or fire most of the team members and start over, because this kind of sloppy service is going to affect their bottom line! One waitress, her hygiene was so bad that I'm glad that we did not have to encounter her through our meal. The good news is, we found a couple more Thai restaurants in Reston that were actually a lot better and friendlier!! We will never be back...
Read moreThis is hands down our favorite Thai restaurant in the area. The food is tasty, servings are generous, prices are pretty good, the atmosphere is great, and the staff are some of the best of any restaurant in this whole area. This is a 10/10 place.
All of their dishes are great. Seriously, we haven't had a single bad dish here. Everything from the curries (the yellow curry being a personal favorite of mine) to the soups to the Pad Thai to the appetizers is fantastic. They are also very flexible here; they cater to your spice levels and to some dietary constraints.
Their menu is really well organized. It's divided into sections they call "rooms" -- for example, they'll have a page called "My Soup Room" which has all the soups -- so that way you can very quickly find a category of food you'll like. And like I said, everything they make is great, but if I had to say what their "specialty" is, it's probably the crispy duck. Really flavorful, crispy on the outside, and soft/meaty on the inside. It's almost perfect.
That being said, their prices are fantastic and hard to beat. Many of their entrees are still in the low $20's range, which in this area is becoming increasingly hard to find. Especially for how tasty the food is and how GENEROUS the portions are. Seriously, quite often you'll eat and have plenty of food left over to take home.
The staff is without a doubt some of the best restaurant staff around. They are super friendly, attentive, polite, and professional. They strike the perfect balance; they make sure you are well taken care of, without being overwhelming or annoying. They are always pleasant and many of them just simply seem like they are happy to work there. (Which again, as of late is not something you see a lot of in other restaurants.) And if you go from time to time, they'll start remembering you and greeting you with their always-friendly smile.
Their atmosphere is really good. They have decoration that I would call "pretty" -- with lots of flowers and a new blue tree of some sort. The flowers are not my personal style, but I can see why people love taking pictures there, it is indeed pretty.
Oh, one more thing -- we've never had to make reservations here. They always have seating available. Now, granted, we have not gone at super peak hours (for example, a Saturday evening or something), but in general we get seated right away.
This restaurant has "ruined" things for us in a way; after we started going to this restaurant, we can't go to any other Thai restaurant in the area, haha. When we get craving for Thai food, we ONLY go to MyHome. If you're in the area, whether you are a local or just visiting, I strongly recommend you at least check it out. We love this place and will be eating there for a long...
Read moreThis review is from when I ate here last month. It was my second time visiting as the first visit a couple of years ago was pleasant. My experience with the service is the reason why I don’t think I will be returning. There were two servers working that night. Since I was coming from a late evening post-op hospital appt, I had asked our server if they can make the drunken noodles with NO spice/heat. She said yes as the customer chooses the spice level, so I specifically requested for no spice/heat in my food. I had mentioned this to our server twice and she understood. When my food arrived, it was incredibly spicy! In fact, all of the food at our table was “can’t feel your tongue” spicy. My dish alone had over 12 slices of peppers in it. Both servers were busy and not around so I couldn’t flag anyone down. Nonetheless I ate a few bites and decided to take the rest home. When the second server came to collect the bill, I let her know about my spicy food and showed her the peppers as well. She said that those peppers don’t make a dish spicy, and that this is what no spice in Thai cuisine means. That…didn’t make sense. She then said that I should have told both servers that I don’t want spicy food, and that I should’ve also told them both that I was coming from a doctor’s appt. That made no sense to me! Why do I have to tell EVERY worker at the restaurant about my order and spice preference? Is it not enough to just notify the server taking and submitting your order? And why do I have to disclose my personal business of where I was before coming to the restaurant? The part that left the bad taste in my mouth was the way I was being spoken to. I had just politely told the server about what had happened when we were paying. But she spoke to me in a condescending tone, talking with an attitude as if I was being difficult or causing a scene. She kept sarcastically smiling and saying that I should have clearly told both servers that I didn’t want spicy food (making the whole ordeal my fault) and the whole time we interacted she spoke to me in an unpleasant manner. This left me a bit stunned. The only reason I gave two stars is because before packing my noodles to go, she brought my dish back to the kitchen and they kindly did something to make the dish less spicy than before. Personally, based on the way that server handled that whole conversation, I left the restaurant feeling like this will be my last visit to MyHome Thai....
