This is the second time I stayed at this location, and it was a great value. I ran into a few hiccups while there but the excellent staff and management at said location more than made up for said hiccups.
On check-in, the Front Office Manager, Sean, was extremely friendly and worked with me to provide me with options to keep my party close together. He was also very knowledgeable about the area and provided me a good choice of dining locations nearby. My status was acknowledged and Sean set me up with a large suite by the elevators, which I appreciated it greatly. Sean and Alex also ordered me some wine and a cheese plate for my room.
Upon entering our suite, I found it to be huge, a single bedroom suite with a living room complete with a couch, office table and dining table. Complimentary water is standard with the room. The A/C's were very cold in both rooms. The bath water is hot and pressure is good. The beds were the usual soft comfortable standard Sheraton hotels have always provide. Also, on our second night, Sahad and Nasir at the front desk were kind enough to deliver a beautiful amenity of wine, cheese, crackers and fruits to our room for my loyalty.
The club lounge at this location is standard with a medium amount of spacing and offers breakfast on the weekdays(breakfast is offered instead at the in-hotel restaurant instead on weekends). Standard fare is provided, with pepsi products, water and a multi-option coffee machine provided. I was not able to try breakfast in the lounge but did have a standard breakfast at the in-hotel restaurant.
Overall, as an older hotel, the hotel does have a few issues, but not issues that can be resolved by even the most earnest of staffing. With that in mind, the hiccups I ran into were that, unfortunately, the first suite we stayed in created a bit of a respiratory allergy for my wife, but the front desk, Alex, was very prompt in providing me with an alternate room, in which my wife was much better. The second floor on the far side also had a little bit of a musty odor to it. Upon bringing these to the attention of the front office manager, he explained to me that the building being over 50 years old, unfortunately, did have these as a slight issue. As an avid traveler, I've learned over the years that when you have a hotel that is in a slower, non-tourist area that doesn't have a high turnover, these are things that can and typically do happen. Honestly for the price I paid, it was something I personally was able to adapt to. But it was also mentioned that the location would be undergoing renovations relatively soon. I look forward to re-visiting this location after said renovations, especially with a staff that endeavors to provide excellent service at all times.
Many thanks to the staff, Sahad, Nasir, Alex, and Sean at the front desk for a wonderful and...
Read moreThe room was fine, and the stay was fine. I was in town for a conference. The issues began with my key not working. No worries, happens all the time. I get a new key and it doesn't work either. I return to the desk and the clerk says she will send maintenance right away. I go back to my room on the 3rd floor. This is important, because you have to use your key to use the elevator. No problem with the elevator, but the room doesn't open. After 20 minutes of waiting, I call using the house phone, and maintenance was not called. I could overhear the clerk and the maintenance worker begin to argue, and finally maintenance arrives. I am told my key needs to be reprogrammed. I explained that it worked fine in the elevator. He says the battery on the lock needed to be changed. He changes it, everything works great until the next day. Same thing, lock won't work. I go back to the desk. Maintenance comes back. I am told that my key needs to be reprogrammed. I explain that my key still works in the elevator. Eventually he reprograms the entire lock, and things were fine until the end of my stay.
However, my final day, I requested a late checkout. I was given the usual hour, and I explained I would need longer because of the conference schedule. The person I talked to started giving me a little attitude, so I told her the entire saga. I also told her that the situations with my lock cost me an hour of my free time, so I would be taking that hour back at the end of my stay. It was later that I was told that since I'm a Bonvoy Member I automatically have an extra hour if I choose to use it. I'll take the blame for that one. I should know the benefits, etc.
When I checked out, I explained everything to the manager on duty who awarded me 5000 bonus points. After I checked, the value of those extra points was $42. Insulting to say the least. I was contacted by what I am assume to be the head manager of the property. After reviewing my experience, etc he awarded me an additional 10,000. Even if I add both together, it still does not add up to one night's stay. I am not the kind of person who is looking for a free ride, and I am not the kind of person who writes a lot of reviews. But in this case, not to award a member enough points for a free night still seems insulting to me. Will it break the Marriott Corp. to give one free night's stay? I'm not even talking about staying at the Reston property. I had trouble finding a property where this would add up to a free night, and when I did the reviews were not great.
Will I stay here again? Only if there is a conference I am attending. What is disappointing is that in previous years, everything has been great.
This property leaves me with the impression they do not value their guests, and certainly not their...
Read moreNot Sheraton Standard.
I have stayed in quite a few Sheraton's in the past and this does not come close to the standard other than maybe the fitness center.
Fitness Center: By far this is one of the best fitness centers I've seen and the equipment from peleton and lifetime are smooth and nice. Hopefully they maintain the equipment for years to come. While nice, you have to go through the lobby and their conference room area. Not usually a problem except walking in workout clothes across suites and ties is awkward. They should have the fitness center away from all the conference rooms.
Restaurant: there are very and I mean very limited choices and the price is upsurd. I saw the dinner menu and the lowest priced item for food was $28. No thanks!!!
Breakfast: I was supposed to have it included in my stay from the option I picked, but no vouchers or anything. When I asked she said don't worry we will charge your room O_o. I didn't eat to say the least. The options again we're super basic store bought ready made stuff. I rather go to the 711 to get something.
Rooms: I talk more in the rooms section, but the water pressure is extremely low! I felt as I needed to go pump water from a well. The room is fairly basic though and the TV needs to allow casting devices. This is not 1990! Pillows are so soft that even 4 pillows together don't make one. The storage for clothes is good enough for maybe a 3 night stay for a solo guest. Anything longer consider yourself warned.
Parking: I saw some people complain, but it is right in front of the hotel..not sure why it's hard to figure out. The ground even says reserved Sheraton. I will say seeing the hotel is hard since a bunch of business are clumpped together.
Staff: They are alright. I saw some people complaining, but they got what they got in a hotel in construction still. They were nice to me.
Lounge: oh wait there is no lounge. Not until ~March 2023 is what I heard.
Pool: there is no pool after the renovation.
WiFi Speed: don't expect to get anything done. Speeds are faster on an old 56K modem. I topped my speeds at 1.4Mbps (T1 equivalent back in the day) and that is unacceptable. I used my phone network and got 35Mbps with att.
Elevators: if I could find the stairs that would be phenomenal and faster that the 1970s elevator that thinks for 20 seconds after pressing the button.
Will I stay here again: No, mainly because I was promised breakfast and a lounge access. Both...
