I gave this coffee shop 3 stars for a few reasons, hear me out: Q. Was the service good? A. Yes, with an asterisk. The barista at the counter was friendly, but seemed really distracted when I was asking simple questions about their brewing process. He also made me an entire drink with the wrong milk even though I asked for a specific milk, which is fine, it happens, but then he makes the new drink incorrect. Sad face.
Q. Was the drink delicious? A. Meh. I like my drinks strong, and I like to talk through it with my barista so they know that. The drink’s flavor was very weak and during the introduction process with the barista, I asked if the drink that I was going to receive would be strong. He said that it was a general brew base, and that it was just added to the milk, but said that he could make it stronger. I said OK thanks cause I like it strong. When I received my beverage, it was quite weak, so I feel that they didn’t listen to my request at all (I even paid extra for the extra strength). So after taking my first sip in the parking lot, I went back inside to ask again for more of the brewed ingredient. Another sad face. -To be fair: when I asked a different barista to add more of the ingredient to the drink he was super helpful. So props to that guy (not the original barista).
Q. How was the quality? A. Quality was fine. Nothing special, but that’s ok. I just wanted a delicious caffeinated beverage.
Q. Overall feel of Communion Coffee? A. Overall, the atmosphere is great. It was full of people on laptops and having conversations. My only issue is with the drink quality vs. price (my iced drink which was almost flavorless was around $8 + tip), which was made incorrectly and had to be altered twice.
This coffee shop seems like a nice local hub for people in the area, but I will reconsider buying a drink here again because I like to drink beverages that the baristas have pride in making. I know it sounds snobby, but that’s my prerogative when I’m paying $10 for a...
Read moreMy family lives nearby and I know people that visit often. The decor is adorable and we've been patient as they've renovated, separated out the coffee shop, changed the hours and service model, etc. I really want to like this place more, but it's been a struggle. The prices are a little steep, but I get that it's a local/non-corporate place. Service is slow/kind of clueless, even when there aren't many people around, but I guess it gives us more time to hang out.
But there have also been so many times we've come and not been able to get what we want. Pastries have been both completely out of stock or not yet delivered around 10am. Out of ingredients for brunch menu items but the staff doesn't remember until after they've tried to submit your order. The only espresso machine broken for multiple days and just one type of drip coffee. Out of syrups and the ingredients to make featured seasonal drinks on visits over the course of 2 weeks.
These inconveniences have carried over even as the coffee shop has separated into its own space, and it is quite frustrating because the location is convenient and so cute. Unfortunately seems like they never got over the initial opening/getting settled phase as they keep making pretty big changes. Could be that they are trying to be too many things all at once-restaurant, coffee shop, coworking space, family/pet friendly, event hall, barber shop, etc. Still hopeful that maybe they can get it together and...
Read moreWe live in the area and having a spot like this so close and local is fantastic. We want unique spots in our neighborhood to support and frequent. We have been twice now and both times we have had some of the worst service we have ever experienced in a restaurant setting. Both times the ticket times for our meals have been lengthy due to the smallish kitchen but mostly due to the inept service. Twice my wife has asked for pastries, twice she was told the daily options, twice she had to ask multiple times as to where the pastry order was to only twice be told that there were no pastries. Twice she made her order based upon the pastry order and twice she wasnt able to receive correct information let alone the order. Today she order a latte. After 20 minutes, I went to the coffee bar and asked if the latte was ready only to be told that there was no order for the latte. We asked the server only to watch him go to the POS and add the item to the order. Once we received our food, the subsequent service was poor and stand offish from a server. That was enough for us. We stood and left. We want to like the establishment. We love the lay out and the food is great. A smallish kitchen with long ticket time is okay and understandable, however constant ignorance to the menu and how to be a server is not. We have tried twice and had the exact same poor quality service, so we see no reason to return,...
