I saw that the reviews were great and decided to try it before attending a show at the Altria Theatre. I was grateful that the place was empty and thought that the service should be speedy. I considered the female waitress to be condescending upon first ordering as when I inquired about the wine list, she looked at me as if I should already know about their offerings. After receiving my small turkey sandwich, I noticed that the bread was dry. I brought this to the attention of the waitress and at that moment, she became even more condescending. In her efforts to remedy the situation about the dry bread, she attempted to "handle" me as if my complaints were empty. Comments like, "That is strange. We never heard that before" fall on deaf ears as I was experiencing bread so dry, that it crumbled upon biting into the sandwich. I also do not appreciate her attempting to diminish my concerns through condescending comments. I was thankful that the manager decided to take a percentage off of my bill but in his effort, he decided to smirk at me and made the snarky comment, "Well, let me take this dry bread from your table." At the time I was appreciative when the manager decided to take off a percentage from my bill, but after having checked my banking account, I am now concerned that someone from that establishment wrote a tip on my receipt and charged me for it. I am not only regretting my experience there, I am now questioning how they conduct business. I will note that I stopped there to eat before attending a play at the Altria Theatre. As I walked back from the play, I noticed that the crowd at this restaurant did not look like me as I identify as a Black woman. This is helpful to note as while the reviews appear to be favorable, I question "who" the reviewers are and if the employees there prefer...
Read moreCame here with a friend, we had dinner and drinks. After closing out we sat outside to finish our intimate conversation. Our server came outside and started shouting, “did you not mean to tip?!” Confused I asked what they were talking about. They stated that the amount on the tip line was scribbled through and the total was written on the tip line. My friend (who had been drinking and was very upset due to previous conversation), stated that she had mistakenly written the wrong amount on the tip line, scratched through it and wrote the total on the total line. She didn’t ask for another blank check because she had been drinking and had already been extremely anxious due to prior conversation. So instead of verifying if the check was correct and offering to bring a new, blank receipt to receive a tip, we were attacked. The server starts yelling at us that they only make money from tips and if we can’t afford to tip we shouldn’t eat out. The behavior from the server was embarrassing, completely unacceptable and unnecessary. This whole situation could have been avoided with communication you’d expect from adults. The server demanded we leave. I asked my friend to leave and went inside to talk to the server to see if I could rectify the situation. I tried to talk to the server who obviously had been hyped up from the folks at the bar to cause a scene. Upon realizing there was no talking to this person because they were too emotional, I asked for the managers name and they refused to give it. It is extremely unfortunate that this situation occurred and I hope this is not a regular practice from this server or this establishment. I wonder if this sever would have approached us with the same ferocity if we looked similar to them. Be aware. Music was...
Read moreAs a visitor from Baltimore I really wanted to like this place but had a very frustrating experience. We are two vegans, and they had many listed vegan options so expected it to be a fun time. We ordered the Pit Beet, specified to make it vegan. Bartender took the menus, went to put the order in, and asked if we wanted apple slaw. We said "sure why not", not thinking about it.
It takes 20+ minutes for the food to come out, but it definitely has cheese and the coleslaw clearly has mayo. We ask the bartender about the cheese, and he confirms with the BoH, says they will remake it and use hummus instead of cheese. No one mentions the slaw, but I checked the menu on my phone and we could not eat it. It went back in the kitchen when they remade it, and no one thought to ask us at any point which sucks IMO. If you're remaking a vegan item and see something non-vegan on the plate, you should ask! What if this was an allergy and you poison someone?
It takes another 20+ minutes to get our replacement sandwich - which doesn't even have the hummus we were promised! When we bit into it, it tastes like pure horse radish. My girlfriend takes 2 bites and immediately knows she can't finish hers. I soldiered through, but it was frankly horrible. Maybe the cheese/hummus would have balanced it better, but I don't know. We choked down what we could, paid, and left ASAP.
We had the peach gazpacho which was good, bartender seemed reasonable, and the atmosphere was pretty great. I just can't believe how horrible the dining experience was.
Hope management sees this and makes some changes. If your menu has vegan options, it needs to be more explicit about what those are, and staff should be considerate...
