I’m not gonna lie…. We found this place using google maps trying to find somewhere on the way back to my sisters. Not being from the area, it was quite the experience and a little scary. One minute we’re going by all these college buildings, and the next we’re turning down the street where the restaurant is having people knocking on our windows. We didn’t realize whatsoever this was sort of a downtown area.
Parking is very challenging, and honestly with everything going on around us, I gave up because I couldn’t figure out for the life of me which park pay app to use. We learned quick there is only take out as an option anyway.
Ordering was super easy and done on a computer touch screen. I got the chicken hibachi and added a shrimp side as they didn’t do combos of multiple options. The meal came with fried rice and noodles, veggies, and your protein. That totally went over my head not being familiar with what the meal looked like, but I really loved the noodles. The food was good, but overall had a lot of black pepper. There was also a lot of sauce on the food. Maybe teriyaki. We didn’t expect that. I would recommend that being stated somewhere. My husband is a type 1 diabetic and wouldn’t have been able to eat that with the amount of sugar in that sauce plus the carbs! You’re able to pick two sauces to go with your meal. The yum yum sauce is a pinkish color which really threw us off! We also got ginger.

Read moreDecided to retry after years since my last visit. (Read till the end.) I ordered AND paid on the kiosk and waited inside for my food. They have a wide open window from the kitchen facing the customer area, so I went to grab the food after my buzzer went off. When trying to grab my food, the woman behind the window said I need to get it from the cashier, and they quickly exchanged my box of food. I obliged and went to the register.
Before saying anything else, the cashier asks “card or cash?” I had my receipt in hand and was confused as to what the point of the kiosk is if I still had to go to the register. I said “I paid already..” and the cashier sharply replied “the system is showing it’s unpaid.” I raised my receipt saying “this shows that I just paid.” Without apologizing or saying literally anything else to me, she grabs her supervisor who asks for my receipt to verify the charge. No apology or anything, everyone was pretty short and barely even gave eye contact. Mistakes happen so I would have understood the payment issue, if anyone showed an ounce of customer service. l grab my bag and take the food home, dismissing that weird interaction.
After taking off the lid and fishing through the food a bit, I see a long strand of hair in my food. It was obvious that it wasn’t mine. $15 wasted and appetite ruined. I found the whole encounter to be odd and won’t...
Read moreHibachi Box exceeded my expectations and in my opinion was just as satisfying as Kabuto's or Bennihana minus the teppanyaki dining experience.
I ordered to-go which was a wise choice for me, because one hibachi box was enough to split into 2-3 more reasonable size servings.
I got the steak hibachi, add shrimp, and add egg (options whole or scrambled) with ginger and yum yum sauce to dip the meats in.
I was also given the option of mushrooms or no mushrooms in the veggies which is good for the mycophobic, but I personally love them.
The included salad came with another ginger sauce which I didn't use for that as it was a bit too creamy for my taste on lettuce and I instead opted for Makimoto ginger salad dressing from my refrigerator that I had on-hand... you could say that's the only "con" of my experience.
Next time I will anticipate the included creamy ginger sauce by default from the salad and likely get yum yum and spicy mustard for my 2...
