Called Jamaica House on Monday afternoon wanting to order some cocktail patties. While talking to the person on the phone could hear her talking to someone in the background saying " him no know wat him want" Why would l called if I don't know what I wanted? However I told the person on the phone I wanted to order 24 cocktail patties and I would pick them up at 4pm. I told them I could not come there to pay for it as I was at work and on the other side of town. At 3:55 I walked into the store ready to pay and pick up my order the cashier pick up a piece of paper that had my order and name on it and asked someone in the back what do you want me to do with this he is here. She told me "the chief did not think you were going to come so they did not complete the order but you could wait for it and it would take an hour to 45 minutes" . At no time during the phone conversation did they told me I would not get the patties unIess i paid for it up front. I did not have 45min to wait so i told the cashier no and waked out the store. Why Jamaica House could not just let me know we will not do it unless you pay for it up front then i would not have waist my time coming over there and I could have order the patties from somewhere else. I was suppose to have those patties for a presentation but because of Jamaica House I did not have it at the presentation. So in the future I will avoid doing business with...

We stopped by this evening expecting a good meal. Sadly I was extremely disappointed. The young lady who took our order was kind and polite. The Latino man who delivered our food was NOT. He brought me a beef patty instead of chicken to which I didn’t realize it until after I had already took a bite and ate it. I have a beef allergy and immediately called this to his attention. He absolutely showed NO concern and condescendingly replied “oh so what do you want, a chicken patty”. What an A hole! The cabbage was severely undercooked I could barely chew it. I am not a horse or donkey and my bite strength just couldn’t handle the toughness. The curry was not hot at all, Just warm. Overall, we sat for about ten minutes and then asked for two boxes and the same Latino man had the audacity to act as if he was doing us a favor and damn near didn’t even want to give us boxes. We ate about 10% of what was on our plates and he tried to give us a little teeny box.
Atmosphere was sketchy! Homeless people right outside the door pandering and two people sitting inside across from us doped up out of their minds!
I really use to love this place but I will not be back. They just lost a customer who has been coming here since before they moved and for well over a decade! I wish I could get my money and time back!...
Read moreMy husband and I were in Richmond yesterday for a show at the Altria Theatre and came here for dinner. I got a combo meat with goat curry and oxtail. He got a brown stew king fish. Both were flavorful and had good portion size. Service was a little slow. We ordered while we were on the road and 20 minutes away. The online system said 20-25 minutes. We opted to eat there and told them that (they dont allow you to eat from their takeout containers there). It probably took about another 15-20 minutes after arriving to get our food on the table so that means it was about a 40 minute wait total, which is quite long.
I will address the staff issue several others have talked about. I do not think these people are rude, maybe a bit impersonal or not hospitable would be a better word. The cashier has a stoic face and doesn't really greet you but she's not really rude. The lean gentleman with the bald head is quite nice but doesnt speak a lot either. I also don't come here expecting a lot of hospitality, it's just not that type of place. You order and pay at a counter and they bring the food to you. It's not a warm waitress server type of environment.
The decor is bright and airy. We were comfortable eating there. The color choices do remind me of the tropics.
Overall we liked this place, would come back, and recommend it to...
