This restaurant was one that I had thought was amazing the first time I had gone; I had went with a friend and we had payed in cash (She had advised me to do this because they give out discounts if you pay in cash as opposed to using a card). During this outing, our food was delivered in a timely manner, it tasted great, and the ambiance felt amazing in the restaurant (Then again, we were the only two in the restaurant, as it was July 4th and I'm pretty sure no typical American eats out on Independence Day lol). I was singing my praises for this place to whoever asked me where to go to get some good "Japanese" food (I put this in quotes because the people who run the place are straight-up fobby Chinese people, and a lot of the food on the menu isn't authentically Japanese, but I mean at least their gyoza is close-to authentic).
The second time I had gone here, however, has totally ruined my Masago experience. This time, I had gone out with three of my good friends who had never had any good Japanese food before. We arrived and the place was packed, as to be expected, but they had managed to find seats for the four of us and we placed our orders. Now, I know that I had mentioned that the restaurant was full, but it took an UNBEARABLY long amount of time for them to serve us, and we even saw waitresses walking around who were literally doing NOTHING productive. Some 15-20 minutes later, we are delivered our first wave of food. The food was of good quality, of course (I usually order shumai, gyoza, and harumaki, while my three friends ordered fried rice). As we began eating, we had noticed that we were only given chopsticks as utensils. Two of my friends had great trouble using them (Naturally they wouldn't have known how to; one is Albanian and the other a Peruvian) and I had asked a waitress if they had any forks. They handed me forks to give to them, albeit, she had walked away laughing at us. This, I find, is EXTREMELY disrespectful, especially to those who are ordering food from your establishment. We had finished our food and pooled our money together to pay for the whopping $80 billing. We had given our waitress the money when both the waitress and I had forgotten about typical gratuity. She had returned and asked us, and I had told her that I had forgot and handed her a reasonable 15% for gratuity. My friends and I are ready to leave as the waitress comes back to our table asking us "Why you only leave 15%? Was the food bad?" I was BAFFLED at how she was basically implying that we left her a bad tip. She went on to say that "The manager will be mad that you only leave 15%". We all sat down in disbelief as we had to scrape up enough money, somehow, that would make that reasonable 15% tip a "more reasonable" 20% tip for the rude waitress, and once we found enough money, I was not about to hand it to her, and instead handed it straight to the manager. She skimmed the money without much care and said "Okay, thank you". She probably didn't even care how much of a tip we would have left!
All in all, Masago has good food, sure. But their waitresses are beyond rude, the establishment is too small to even be called a restaurant, and how the hell does an $80 billing turn into nearly $100?! Unfathomable. I, nor any of my friends, will ever...
Read moreThis was my favorite sushi restaurant near my house. I don't know what happened but I came here for dinner with my family and it was a very bad experience.
First the hostess tried to sit us in the back at a good table but two people actually yelled at her in front of us not to let us sit there and stuck us in a very tight area instead. Our server was rude most of the time but what was the worst was that when my parents, who are senior citizens and don't know how to use chopsticks, asked for forks, he actually said "forks? WOW" loudly to my dad and walked away. Unbelievable.
As far as the food, the Takoyaki appetizer was disgusting and couldn't eat it. For the entrees, my dad ordered the salmon teriyaki bento box, my mom and I ordered sushi. My dad and I didn't finish our food and took it home. My mom's sushi ended up making her sick the next, she was nauseous. When I was eating the rest of my sushi, I realized one of the rolls they gave me was not at all what I ordered. And my dad's bento box was supposed to have shrimp tempura. Well two pieces had the tiniest shrimp inside and was mostly dough (never happened before) and one piece didn't even have shrimp but had sweet potato instead. Ridiculous.
So disappointed, this place is apparently going downhill. They really need to do something about that server too. The rudeness and I think it was his fault I got the wrong roll. When we were placing our order, he kept repeating the wrong names and we had to keep correcting him. Also, when I was waiting for the bathroom, the guy that came out of the back pushed me hard twice! And didn't even say anything. They need to do something about their staff. Unbelievable.
I'll give them one more chance at some point, but if this happens again, they're losing a loyal customer and I'll be telling everyone I know about this as well. Completely...
Read moreDo not order from here.
I called up yesterday to place a delivery order for 30 dollars. The Asian owner/manager on the phone explained that it would take an hour. Two hours later, the food wasn't here. Finally, I called them up. The same Asian women picked up and claimed that it was not masago. I called back again, making sure it was the right number and received the same response.
Finally, my mom called up through her phone. Turns out, they were just purposely not answering my calls to avoid the delivery.
They picked up my moms call and explained that they had called over 30 times and nobody had answered the phone or door. My mom explained that we did not receive any calls. They also said that the delivery driver refused to drop off our food at this point.
They forced us to come in and pick it up. I kindly declined. My friend called up attempting to explain the situation and the manager angrily yelled and hung up.
Basically, they did not want to deliver the food and instead lied blatantly to me a couple times. First saying that it wasn't masago, then acting like they called me thirty times when I did not get ONE single phone call, and then rudely hanging up. I've never been lied to by a business multiple times. Horrible delivery service. If they did not want to deliver to fairlawn, they could...
