We were so very excited to have an Irish pub in the area as I've spent time in Ireland during college and have Irish friends. We were pretty disappointed though. This is a good location in downtown River Falls, a college town, on the main street. The main problem seems to be the heating. Seating near the front windows is very cold. So cold we had to move back. Then we were cold there too because staff continuously used the back alley door to empty garbage, boxes, and have smoke breaks etc. It was quite cold on a January night. We couldn't find a warm place to sit on a night in the low teens for temps outside. The bathroom is even worse. No heat. There is a fan running, and a space heater sitting on the floor under the sink, but unplugged. It is not pleasant to use an unheated, ice cold restroom at all. Since this establishment has been opened for a month now, and they are aware of the climate in Wisconsin in winter, this should have been rectified before opening to the public. The food was okay, not large portions but pretty good. We had the Irish Stew and reuben. The cabbage was brown and kind of wilted. We did not eat that at all. The stew was a small portion, but okay for the price of ten dollars. Maybe add some bread to the stew for a side dish to fill up the customer a bit more. Drinks were ok for the area as far as price. Service was friendly, but a bit disorganized as we never knew who exactly the staff were. We thought we saw a manager and the owner and two waitresses. It's hard to tell who was doing what. Sometimes the manager was acting as host. Sometimes someone else was. It's sad to say that we most likely won't be back or tell friends/family to try it out for these reasons. Our bill was forty dollars and we expected a warm, comfortable environment. Also, the atmosphere is very bland. Some artwork or color would really brighten up a very long narrow restaurant with only browns and whites. Most pubs are decorated nicely, even the bar. This one needs some work in various ways: heat, decore, and...
Read moreIf I could have left no stars, I would have. Started off the experience with the male bartender complaining about having to make a Cosmo and a Lemon Drop Martini [both items are on their menu] to other customers in the establishment. Then it took quite some time to actually place our food order because the bartender was too busy socializing and sharing his life story/problems with another group of customers. Then we ordered appetizers and entrées at the same time, male bartender acknowledged each item ordered as we said it. Appetizers come out, they are excellent. Short while later, three of the four entrees come out. When I asked where my entrée was and the cook [who was very kind] said it wasn't on the order. I asked to just cancel my entrée, because the rest of my party already had their food. The male bartender immediately became defensive and said, "I don't even think you ordered it." I simply said, "I did." Male bartender continues to have an attitude and say things, even while walking away. I then said, "I just don't want the food. It's fine." Male bartender continues to have an attitude and talk negatively towards me. Male bartender then waited to talk to my party until I went to the restroom. Also, as we were walking out, he says to another customer, "I'll tell you in a minute." Drinks were made very incorrectly and poorly. The members in my party said their food was delicious. Male bartender did comp our entire order, and LOUDLY announced it to the entire bar multiple times. Would not recommend...
Read moreThe food here is great, not sure how else to put. So is the service. River Falls needs more than just another burger bar, and you get it here. They're using quality ingredients and making food that takes time to prepare and cook, and it shows in the results. Yes, they do run out of menu items sometimes, but I worked in the restaurant business for a while, and that just comes with the territory when you've got a small kitchen and you're cooking up quality food. You have to make sure you're ordering only many ingredients as you know you can sell so nothing goes bad. It's a delicate balance. But honestly, I've gone in wanting something they're out of, and then it motivates me to try something else, which ultimately is just as great as the item I wanted to order. Plus great beer selection.
I'm not sure if they're trying to be a restaurant, a bar, or both. Personally, I think the restaurant is where it's at and I hope they lean into that more because they're serving...
