Gordon's Stop Light Drive In — Restaurant in River View Township

I gotta say, I don't get it. My dad was in a mood for a burger and so we looked up all the places to eat in the area and got the usual Sonic, McDonalds, Steak N' Shake, etc. Then I saw Gordon's Stop Light Drive In which seemed like a nice local place with very favorable reviews, so we decided to come here and check it out. The restaurant looks like a typical greasy spoon type diner which isn't a problem because usually I have good experiences with those type of places. I'm going to cut to the chase here. The food is way too expensive for what you get. Normally with diner food the one thing you DON'T have to worry about is leaving the place hungry. If you come here, don't get anything less than a double. The burgers are smashed down to be paper thin much like Steak N' Shake, so a single patty does not go far. Is the food good? Well it actually tastes alot like Steak N' Shake which isn't bad. However you will pay double the price for the exact same meal here. I personally had the onion rings which again were much like Steak N' Shake's only they were overdone.

In the end the food is not bad, but lacks much in value in both quantity and taste. I have seen posts that claim this place has the best burger they've ever had. Not even close. The Sonic down the street puts this place to shame, and that's a fast food chain! I'm all for supporting local restaurants as in St. Louis where I live I don't have many of those type of places to choose from. But I can't get behind a place like this when the few local places that I do have can absolutely obliterate this place in price, quality,...

This place is great! I only wish it were closer to me. I live about 20-25 minutes away, but I passed this place over the weekend when I came to get a piece of furniture from a nearby business. It reminded me that i have been wanting to try this place so, I came back today with my sons after school. There is only counter seating and not a ton of it so go either at an off time, try to get a table outside, or just order pickup. Either way the place is nostalgic and was just as fast as any fast food restaurant if not quicker.. and not to mention way better. The cheeseburgers are just spectacular! My boys enjoyed the cheese fries. They offered us drink refills to go. Prices are reasonable.. just remember inflation has changed everything.. compared to other places I feel this place is still pretty reasonable although I’m sure not as cheap as it was pre-pandemic, but that’s life these days. Remember cash or check (with valid id) only. Cannot wait to go back! Especially when looking for a meal on a budget...

Cashier who took our order was rude, didn't smile once, or acknowledge us in any way. She acted like when we sat down it was an inconvenience for her to wipe down a very dirty counter and she didn't so we chose to eat outside. I questioned her why my bill was more than I thought and she was rude again. Later I realized she overcharged me but she said it was my husband's fault. Burgers were small and the fries were tasteless and he didn't fill the container for a large even though I paid for it. Air conditioning was blasting and people complained of being very cold. When I complained of my whole experience they said it was busy and no she wasn't rude. There were 3 people eating inside and no one was cooking. 5 workers hanging around socializing.
