In the last 9 months, I’ve ordered 3 cakes from the Wildflour Bakery and not one of them were the correct cake.
My husband and I were very impressed with the taste, pricing, and selection of Evies cakes after our wedding cake tasting last year. Unfortunately, our cake tasting is where our positive experience with Evie and the Wildflour Bakery stopped.
Rehearsal Cake: We received the wrong rehearsal cake, but were able to go back and get the correct one. No harm, no foul. Including to show that confusion is the only thing consistent with Evie’s Cakes.
Wedding Cake: We ordered a honey oat and a “better than sex” cake with CHOCOLATE frosting and CHOCOLATE fudge filling. Evie wrote it into a contract, had us sign it, and then signed it herself. On our wedding day we were delivered a VANILLA frosted and filled cake. After the honeymoon, I emailed Evie indicating my disappointment. She asked what she could do to make it better and the answer was nothing. The wedding had been over for a week and the cake was long gone. I asked her to be better for the next customer, because there was no doubt that her cakes were the best tasting in town.
Seven months later- she is not better.
Birthday Cake: I coordinated many of the details for our wedding, but my dessert loving husband picked out the cake. When asked if he was excited for the wedding, he joked that he was excited for the cake. He was excited for the cake that he spent an hour crafting with Evie at the tasting. Since he didn’t get his cake at our wedding, I thought it would be nice if I got him the cake he picked out for his birthday. It would have been nice, but Evie didn’t respond to my email or phone calls. After 2 weeks, I called Wildflour to place my order. The bakery couldn’t take any special orders and if Evie didn’t respond to my request, the bakery was out of options for me. Since my husband’s birthday was in a week and the bakery had no way to contact Evie, I ordered a honey oat cake with chocolate frosting/filling.
Fast forward to last night, my husband’s birthday dinner. He cuts into the cake and it has coconut filling, not chocolate. He doesn’t eat coconut… Happy Birthday!
I can’t express the frustration well enough. Not one, not two, but THREE wrong cakes. Three bad experiences and over $600 spent on messed up cakes.
I implore you to take your...
Read moreEvie’s Bakery & Bistro, while still Wildflower 4th St., has been for almost 1.5 decades my go-to place for tasty vegetarian dishes and over-the-top coconut-lemon and carrot cakes. The cakes, also sold by the slice, are fantastic for special occasions like birthdays or just-for-fun treats.
Recently, I’ve started stopping for take-out portions of one of their terrific made-on-location soups - Mushroom Bisque, New England Clam Chowder, Tomato-Cheddar, and White Bean Chicken Chili. All come with an added square of bread, disposable eating utensils, and napkin.
The name change from Wildflower 4th to Eve’s prompted remodeling, making the dining, display cases, and checkout point lighter and airy. The walls, still decorated with local artwork, share space with funky repainted vintage items such as the gold-painted bicycle above the main door.
Table service varies from excellent to adequate. At times, I think that the kitchen is slow, which leads to slow table service. And, let’s face it, Evie’s is sometimes short of staff. Wait staff is hard to hire these post-pandemic days. Overall, the Bistro is best visited when diners are ready for a leisurely meal. Evie’s is not a good place to stop in for a quick bite!
All parking is on the street, with most areas marked as “Two-hour-parking, 8 am-5 pm, Monday through Friday.” There are no handicap-accessible parking spots and no curb cuts. However, to the right of Evie’s, a driveway curb cut leads to the sidewalk and a quick left leads to the sidewalk and...
Read moreFirst time eating here, had heard good things. Everything was going well we sat down ordered drinks and ordered food not long after. Wait time for food for a four top is roughly 20 min. First my entree came out before the salad i ordered, which i have never had that happen before. Second my wife's entree as well as mine came out before my little girls kids meals. It took an extra 5 minutes for my girls to get their simple kids meals consisting of mostly sides ( broccoli, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, tenders ) again never had that happen before either. So by the time i ate my salad, my food on the table was cold. I told Megan and she just grabbed it away and took it off the bill, did not ask if i wanted another or if i wanted something else and didnt hear from her the rest of the evening, she passed me off to a different waitress. Meanwhile we had ordered a couple of their signature cocktails off their menu. My old fashioned was the worst I've ever had it tasted like orange water, which was surprising because i watched her read the directions off her phone while making it. I also went up to see what type of cakes they had and was talking with two People at the counter i looked down at the menu to see what was in them and both people disappeared, for five minutes i stood there with no help. I would have loved to actually try my pasta, but unfortunately i don't think i will be revisting....
