Hey Sugar Candy and Ice Cream — Restaurant in Roanoke

I was really looking forward to visiting this ice cream and candy shop, especially with all the fun and unique flavors they offer. Unfortunately, our experience was soured by the unwelcoming attitude of one of the employees.

When we approached the ice cream counter, we were greeted—not with warmth—but with a noticeably snobbish and dismissive attitude from the employee helping us. She had dark braided hair and was wearing Lululemon shorts. We were friendly and let her know we were interested in ice cream, but we were still looking over the many new flavors. Rather than being helpful or offering samples (which would have made a big difference), she seemed impatient and condescending. She gave very short, dry responses and even cut us off mid-sentence as we tried to ask questions about the flavors. Her tone made us feel rushed and uncomfortable, as though we were bothering her just by being there.

While we were still deciding, another customer politely asked for napkins. The same employee handed them over abruptly, without making eye contact or even saying a word. It all felt unnecessarily cold and unfriendly.

I was really disappointed by the service. When you go out for a treat like ice cream, especially in a place that clearly puts effort into offering unique options, the experience should feel inviting. Sadly, this didn’t. I won’t be returning and sincerely hope the business takes this kind of feedback seriously when considering who they hire to represent...

UPDATE: went back tonight because I had a sweet tooth and I was able to get a pint of half strawberry cheescake and half brownie. Absolutely delightful and the person that helped me was so kind. I paid for my order as my dissatisfaction wasn't to obtain free things, but just consistency. Thank you!

The first time I went it was lovely. It's a bit loud in there, but it was an overall good experience. I got a pint of half strawberry cheescake half cookie dough. Both flavors were delightful. However, I went the following Sunday and was told you can't get half/half of a pint, which doesn't even make sense. It's a shame because the ice cream was tasty and they had glass bottle soda. I won't be going back. Y'all...

My husband and I were craving a PayDay and Bit o Honey candy during a nostalgic moment this afternoon so made a visit. The clerk couldn’t be bothered to answer any questions, would come out of the back, and had the music turned up so loud we had to yell for her to hear us. We did walk out with about $20 of candy after finding bite size BOH candy and a few others. We never could get an answer regarding PayDays other than a shoulder shrug and there aren’t any. Very very poor service. She did come out of the back to check us out, and we made our way over to Tom Thumb and got a PayDay candy bar. We will not be a...
