We really liked the food here, we def had to ask what some things were but everything was really good my husband loved the lamb and I had the mix of kebabs to try a little bit of everything, we also got the mixed appetizer the mezza thing with the dips, definitely glad I asked for extra bread though we really liked them, but way more dip than bread even though we got 2. I can say it is very European service, our server was very friendly but quiet and I had to ask a lot of questions to pull information out of him, and I like more when servers check on the table right away when the food comes out to answer any questions, the tea at the end was a thoughtful touch but completely unnecessary as we were ready to go and don't really drink tea but felt rude not drinking it so had to wait for it to cool down and then go up to the bar to ask for our check so service is very relaxed but food came out quickly, I think if they ever filled the place it would be really hard for servers to turn over tables so maybe that's why they aren't very busy because the food was awesome. I think the menu could be more descriptive about what things are especially for people who don't really know what the names of things mean, I did a lot of googling at the table to find out what I was eating and had to ask a lot of questions to our server about what was what on the plates. Very nice atmosphere and food was really great, the place just needs a bit more enthusiasm in the service I think. All in all we will definitely go back it was a...
Read moreWe recently tried Lumi Restaurant in Rochester for takeout, and overall, it was a decent experience, but not quite as amazing as I hoped, especially for the price. The meal came to $200, which is pretty steep, so I expected the flavors to really stand out. While some dishes were spot-on, others felt a bit underwhelming, especially considering they’re charging luxury restaurant prices. Here’s a breakdown of what we ordered:
Mezza Platter:
Babaganoush: 7/10 (a bit underwhelming)
Ezme: 10/10 (super flavorful)
Carrot Tarator: 10/10 (creamy and fresh)
Hummus: 5/10 (a bit bland)
Haydari: 5/10 (nothing special, yogurt with herbs)
Calzone Parisienne: 9/10 (pretty good)
Beyti Sarma: 5/10 (the meat needed more seasoning)
Chicken Hunkar Begendi: 10/10 (best main dish, babaganoush was much better than in the mezza platter)
Lumi Special Kebab: 7/10 (nothing special, and I had high hopes to this dish)
Beef Casserole: 9/10 (one of the better dishes)
While some dishes were really tasty (like the Ezme, Carrot Tarator, and Chicken Hunkar Begendi), others could use some work, especially when it comes to seasoning. So, while it wasn’t a bad experience, I think Lumi could definitely step it up in terms of flavor to match their...
Read moreFood was average. The Mezze Platter is delicious but the puffy bread was extremely dry. Proportionally, there's not enough bread for the size of the platter, which is OK - can just order a 2nd bread.
Th main course was mediocre. I ordered a roasted pizza, which was soggy when it came out. Contradicts the concept of "roasted". My company ordered a Penne-Vodka, and salad. The salad had very little protein.
The service was pretty bad. The waiter didn't refill waters. And when it came time to pay the bill, he pulled out his little machine and just took my credit card. There was no opportunity to review the bill. That's kind of silly and shocking.
Price is WAY too much. Kind of insulting actually for the quality of food and the less than average service..
Honestly - the venue is very nice. But folks of Rochester - there are a ton better places with better quality food and service and much more reasonable price.
I will not go here again and in fact, had 2 other "team dinners" planned here that I will be changing venues for. Would rather take my...
