Read moreMy company ordered Wally's for a lunch meeting, and no one had anything good to say about it. -Gyro meat tastes like some bland factory made stuff that came in a bag and was microwaved, it wasn't the savory spicy stuff that is commonly expected from a mediterranean place. The pieces were all little pre-formed cuts and not the traditional greasy delicious shavings that most greek places have. -chicken "shawarma" was likewise flavorless and seemed like something you would buy at Costco and then regret. It looks like its been seasoned, but just tastes like nothing. -the hummus was acidic and bitter tasting like it was expired. -the salad was low quality restaurant supply greens with a handful of chopped tomatoes, half a handful of red onion, and a small side cup of feta cheese. -tzatziki sauce was like watery plain yogurt with no distinct flavors. -the only thing that had any flavor was a container of straight up pureed garlic, I guess to just smear on everything else once you realize there's no seasoning -the dry old low quality "pita" tortillas (it was too thin and flat to call it bread) was delivered in the store-bought bags they came in. They didn't even pretend to toast them and put them in a foil container. -the rice...had bits of carrot mixed in to give it the illusion of being seasoned. How do you screw up rice? -the baklava was some dry old store bought stuff also, so dry and mostly made of peanuts it crumbled to pieces just picking it up. Tasted like dusty stale granola.
I feel sorry for anyone whose first impression of Lebanese/Mediterranean/Greek food is this place. There are some fantastic family run greek places between Rocklin and Sacramento, and this isn't one of them. Don't believe their lies about anything being made from scratch here, its all bulk restaurant...
Read moreMy friends drive all the way from Vancouver, WA & always ask for food from Wally's Cafe. Every trip must include a meal from Wally's!!! Friends coming next week again, so we will have to visit Wally's once more
So, this last trip, after 9 plus hours of driving, they were greeted with their favorite pomegranate chicken & all the goodies that Wally's makes...It is perfectly seasoned. Not too sweet and always moist with plenty of delicious seasoned rice & and a generously made salad w all the veggies & lightly dressed vinaigrette, plus the homemade sauces, pita bread & the complimentary lentil soup. We had light & creamy hummus, tzatziki, labne garlic sauce (excellent) & dolmas too. Of course no meal at Wally's is complete without their home made baklava. Soooo much better than the kind people buy off the shelf.... NO comparison! Wally's is light & flaky layers w bits of pistachios. Heaven!!! But, do try their pomegranite chicken.....juicy & never too sweet... All their food is reasonably priced, generous portions and of high quality & taste. Always made with love....
Love Wally's & all of his family & the neighbor folks he also employs... This is a great neighborhood place with a welcoming vibe. We gobble it up so no pictures., but you can view other people's posts... Trust me, good value, prices & exceptional care / pride is...
