Copano's lighting has a welcoming and cozy atmosphere, with wood tables, tasteful decor, and a fish tank that adds a classy vibe. We were greeted warmly, and the server came to our table promptly. However, I was disappointed that our server did not return after delivering our food to check if everything was satisfactory or to see if my steak was cooked correctly—it wasn't. The only time the server approached us again was to ask if we wanted dessert, and there was a lack of eye contact from all the staff.
The restaurant employs a food runner who didn’t engage with us; he seemed to deliver the plates and vanish as quickly as a ninja.
I ordered the ribeye with tallow butter, and I highly recommend it—the steak was tasty and incredibly tender, although it was slightly undercooked despite my specific instructions. My husband ordered the salmon, which he found to be tasty, but was disappointed by the smaller-than-expected portion. He also didn't like that the bacon-wrapped green beans as a side were quite small. I shared my broccolini with him, and he enjoyed the potato purée; while my potatoes were a bit different, both were delicious.
I did not realize before ordering that the fine steak I requested would come served on top of the potatoes. A juicy and high-end steak should never sit on a bed of potatoes; the plate also had a beet puree spread across it, just for decoration. I prefer my steak served simply, accompanied only by its tallow butter. The beet, vegetable side, and potatoes altered the flavor of each food, so I recommend requesting your steak be served separately.
The fresh fruit cheesecake did not disappoint; it was delicious! However, while my husband enjoyed his key lime brûlée, he found it too sweet and again noted its small size...
Read moreWe saw all the excellent reviews of this place and decided to give it a try. Our experience was 13/10 from start to finish. We called ahead - at 5 pm to get a reservation. We were flexible on time so they said 6 pm was what they had and we were available for that. We arrived right at 6 pm and one of the waitresses seated us because the hostess was not there that day. When she was checking for our reservation, we saw the reason they only had 6 pm available was because they are taking social distancing seriously, and they book the 10-12 tables they have for 6 pm or 8 pm reservations. The tables are 6 feet apart, the staff are wearing masks which they are wearing correctly, and we felt extremely safe eating there. I’m a physician, so for me I’m only going to eat at a restaurant which takes safety in the pandemic seriously.
Despite the hostess not being there, the place runs like clockwork! We had the sauteed mussels with chorizo, jalapeños, and jack cheese sauce and the seafood mac and cheese. We also had the rum butter pecan cheesecake for dessert. All were amazing! We had a good amount of mussels for our starter and the seafood mac and cheese had huge chunks for seafood in it. Normally when you order something like this it’s mostly cheese and no seafood. Not here!
Finally, the owner was present all evening asking every table (from a distance and wearing a mask) if they were doing okay. When we left he thanked us for coming and asked how long we were staying and gave his recommendations for brunch places for tomorrow! This additional personal touch was amazing, because as y’all probably know Rockport is recovering from Harvey and it’s a small town. Getting recommendations from the locals is the best way to really...
Read moreWe were interested in trying a new restaurant while on vacation in Rockport since our usual had a 2 hour walk up wait. Called for reservations and hostess took our number and called us back about 30m later. She put us on hold, after returning our call, for about 5 minutes. Weird? She told us she had space for party of 5 at 5pm. OK, we'll take it! Got there and we weren't sure it was open. Walked in and, due to COVID social distancing, it looked like the restaurant was half opened. Boxes of inventory along the wall, tables and chairs stacked upon one another in the corner. Pictures that should be on the wall were laying against the wall. Not impressed at first glance. For intro, we ordered calamari and crab dip. Calamari was strange, not your usual fried rings. It was more like planks of grilled calamari, like grilled octopus in Greece. It was ok, but wife liked it. Crab dip was great, would order it again, but accompanying chips were a mix of old stale and crisp new. Wife ordered chicken piccata, which was typical, nothing special. I ordered scallops, which was very very good, with risotto. Perfect balance of taste and texture. Kids ordered typical kid menu stuff, again, nothing extraordinary. Cheesecake for dessert was also good. Overall, we would return, but need to explore the menu more before full...
