We wanted this to be good so badly, but bad service ruined our experience. We were seated pretty promptly, even though there was a wait. They had more than a handful of open tables, but seemed to be policing the flow well. The host was friendly and polite. We sat for an uncomfortable amount of time before our server came over. I realized then that he passed our table multiple times and never stopped or greeted us. He didn't introduce himself, but the receipt says his name was Alan. He took our drink and appetizer order. After sometime he took our food order. We did wait a while for food, but we werent upset, as its a new place and they are still learning. Our appetizer was the green onion pancake, brought by a friendly red headed server. I devoured my share. I love those things. A young lady brought my husband's Mongolian beef with fried noodles followed by our server with my sesame chicken and fried rice. That was the LAST time our server stopped by or even made eye contact with us, ws we tried profusely. He probably walked past out table 20 times, and had I known what his name was I would have shouted it out because I would have loved soy sauce, which I did not notice was not on the table. I would think it would be offered when they brought the food, since I later found it they are supposed to be on the table but they were broken. This could be a simple fix if the server would have just asked if we would like soy (since it's a popular sauce), or even if they did a three minute check after food was dropped at the table.. the Mongolian beef was flavorful, but truthfully it was mostly onion. Not enough meat. It was also advertised as green onion, which it was not. The fried noodles are straight shrimp. If you have a shellfish allergy, BEWARE. Fried rice was cold and gummy, and would have been manageable with some soy sauce. Sesame chicken was delicious, 9/10. We never saw a manager, none came to the table, none walking around talking to other tables, etc. I DID try to bring it to my servers attention, but mid sentence he cut me off, shrugging, saying he could have brought me some. Could you?? Cause that would've...
Read moreTried this place out for the first time. Mixed feelings. The place is spacious and clean with lots of seating space and decent decor. We came right at opening on Sunday and were seated quickly (party of 6). The service was friendly. Now to the food. Im not including the 10 pages of the menu as you can get those online. I have to say that it was hard not to compare this to high standards such as Din Tai Fung. We all ordered different items from a pretty extensive menu of all you’d except to see in an Asian chain restaurant. The Chilled Sliced Beef Shank was delicious, although heavy on the onions, and gave off pig-ear vibes from other places. The Xiao Lao Bao (combo plate) was delicious and probably one of my favorite dishes. The Hongyu Wontons had a nice chili sauce, but a bit heavy on the salt. The Spicy wonton soup was basically Hongyu Wontons with some delicious broth and next time I’ll probably just get that. The combo Hawaiian Fried Rice was delicious and a generous portion. The Singapore Noodles were a flop. I was a bit distracted and ordered them by mistake. If you like noodles seasoned with dry curry powder, you maybe like them, but I prefer my curry in a sauce. The BBQ Bao were satisfactory. May try a different bao next time. TonKu Tsu Ramen was ok, broth was basic and was missing the depth that a good ramen soup usually has. Same with the LanZhou Noodle Soup… basic. Not sure if the noodles were homemade (will clarify, but didn’t really taste as such). Now the real disappointment: the menu included a Sugar Glazed Duck that I got really excited about only to find out that it’s not available and there’s no telling if it will ever be. I hope they make it available or take it off the menu. I will be back to try different items and possibly update the review. I wish there was...
Read moreI can't wait for my next visit! My wife and I walked in around 1 PM on a Sunday afternoon. The place was packed, with a few parties waiting to be seated. Despite this, we only waited about 10 minutes before we were seated at a comfortable booth. I only noticed maybe 3 servers across the restaurant, and they were all very busy, so I didn't mind the several minute wait we had to have our drink orders taken. The staff were all extremely friendly and polite, even to other patrons who were irate and not polite to them.
Upon receiving our orders, I was immediately pleased with how fresh and aromatic everything was. This was no normal takeout place. The sauces were deep and rich, the wonton wrappers shatteringly crisp, and the produce was as fresh as if I had bought it myself. The hand-pulled noodles were an absolute delight. Whether stir fried into a dish or boiled and served on the side, they were a perfect balance of tenderness and springy bite. We experienced a spectrum of flavors across our meal ranging from playfully sweet Cream Cheese Wontons to the earthy, warming spices of the Curry Fried Noodles.
I feel as though the servers are still getting their feet beneath them as a newly opened establishment. They were working very hard and I do not blame them at all for falling a little behind during our very busy lunch service. Once they get up to their full stride, I have no doubt that they are going to be wonderful.
I will be returning here to try several more menu items, and maybe even some takeout...
