I ordered a take home paint kit online from Painting with a Twist in Rockwall and we had such a great time with it. The kit came with everything we needed and the pre-drawn template was done in a bright highlighter-colored chalk that covered up nicely once we started painting. It made the whole process so much easier, especially for beginners. When we got there the kit wasn’t quite ready yet, but they had just opened for the day so we ran a quick errand and came back. By the time we returned it was ready to go and the staff was super friendly about the whole thing, which I appreciated. We only bought one kit but picked up a few extra canvases at the local craft store and were able to paint five of these together. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, although it did take us about two hours to finish everything. That might be a little long for younger kids, but for older kids and adults it’s perfect. I’ve also done an in-person Mother’s Day class here with my 5-year-old and that was such a fun experience too. The instructor was awesome, patient, and made it easy for both kids and adults to enjoy the process. Between that class and this take-home kit, I’ve really loved every experience I’ve had with this location. My connect group at church does one of these every month and we always have a great time. If you have some easels, extra brushes, and canvases, you can basically host your own little class at home and it turns into such a fun girls’ night or family activity. The only thing I’ll note is that the paperwork can be inconsistent. Some kits come with step-by-step photos and some don’t, so just be prepared for that. Overall I’d give the kits a 10 out of 10. It’s affordable, easy to do, and a creative way to spend time together. Highly recommend grabbing a kit or signing up for a class, both are worth it.

Never done this before, and honestly didn’t know what to expect. A good friend recommended trying this out as a date night with my girl. Wasn’t sure if it would be packed or not. Luckily it was a small setting, i don’t do well in big settings, i feel awkward in big groups. We had the privilege to have James Tigh as our instructor. First off, don’t judge a book by its cover. When I saw this guy I thought and questioned ā€œhmm, this guy is our instructor?ā€ Not in a bad way at all. I could picture him in a rock bad. But as the evening went on we came to find out quickly what an incredible artist this man was and for his love of art and painting since he was a young kid. He made us all feel welcomed and comfortable the entire time, very engaging. And if you get the chance to hear it, this man has an amazing life story that we had the honor to hear him share to us, honestly almost had my girl and I tearing up. We might’ve kept him longer than we were supposed to, but what an encouraging and positive human being he is. He’s here for a reason. Overall what an awesome experience we had. I’m not sure about the other instructors at this location only due to we haven’t met them yet, but if I plan to go again, I personally would go to another session with James Tigh as our instructor. This blew away our expectations!

My daughter, grandson, and myself attended a session painting a Starry Night inspired blacklight painting. We had a BLAST!! The instructor was VERY helpful, as well as fun and encouraging. The music playing was fun -- several painters were singing along while painting. :-) If you don't have much artistic ability (like me!), it's a great way to hang out, and the instructor makes you feel like you really CAN paint! The blacklight aspect of this and other paintings offered is really fun... and when you're done, they turn on blacklights so you can see your painting under them!! SO cool!! We even took pictures with and without the blacklight. We will definitely be going back, and I'd encourage everyone to check it out. It doesn't matter if you have no talent in this area at all. It's just a LOT of fun in a different venue!!

I hesitated almost a week to leave a review because I really don't like leaving negative reviews on public forums.

We were scheduled for a Sunday 6-8pm class. I received a text message around 1pm that the class was being canceled, but we could join the 3-5 class and still have the same painting choice. We chose to attend 3-5 instead of canceling as this was a Christmas experience gift for my 10 year old niece.

Upon arrival, I was told that this was basically a "follow the written directions off a piece of paper" class. Three of us inexperienced painters used a piece of paper with the assistance from the 4th painter - who happened to be an art major.

Our (and I use this word lightly) instructor spent 80-90% of the class time in the back of the building cleaning up from a previous class and doing who knows what else.

I know this was not a typical PWAT experience - I've been doing this with friends and family for over 10 consecutive years. It is only because of my past positive experiences that I will return. Perhaps not to this location. But I am not giving up on the thought of competent employees showing up for a job and doing...
