First, I want to say that the staff helped me out tremendously while I was in store and looking to make my purchase. I knew exactly what I wanted and they were able to assist me with getting through the firearm purchase with ease as well as handling my additional purchases.
However, I did not give this store 5 stars for a very important reason. At the time of my purchase, Academy was running a promotion that would automatically load a gift card with 10% of your purchase of $50 or more as long as you made the purchase from a gift card. No problem. I'm spending the money anyway, why not put it on a gift card and get money back in the long run. Sweet deal. When I got home, I wasn't able to find the gift card. Huge problem, right. Since gift cards are treated as money, when I contacted the store, they informed me that there was nothing that could be done. I was unable to understand how I did not have the gift card, yet I had everything from the purchase, down to the receipt, boxes, plastic bag, and items purchased. I asked the manager to review the security footage to verify if the gift card was returned to me and they answered yes. I'm not one to misplace things usually so I scoured my house, my vehicle, my purchased items to find the card, to no avail.
After all was said and done, I had to contact the store on multiple occasions, the retail customer support center, the online customer support folks. I only wanted to have the card deactivated and a new card reissued. There was only a .10 balance on the card, it's not like it was an attempted swindling on my part. My concern was for the automatic 10% that would get credited to the card on May 1st, 2018. I made a sizeable purchase, thus my concern for what I thought was owed to me. Ok no worry just paid by other means. Got receipt how i paid for it. Come Feb .get a bill for what bought on my Academy card. call them, said would check into. March rolls around same thing .but now I have late fees& inst. Now it April , I start getting calls about my late payments. At that time started writing letters. Talking to people. In one day I talked to 10 different reps with out any help. To try to shorten this it 9/28/24 * I have talked to over 30 people, sent 8 letters Cert. . All kind of documents from the store ,the receipt that show how it was paid for .Bank statements where it was paid by my bank. Say that not enough proof. It affecting my credit. They got all proof & documents( actually 5 or more copies} sent to every place I could. As of this date 9/28/24 it still has not been settled .A $400 purchase [that I paid for by another card} is now $616.52 late fees& inst. HOPE SOME HIGHER IN THE CHAIN HELP ME !!! The Rockwall store tells me it out of their hands. Comenity Capital Bank say it should have been handled by the store, they are the one who sent the bill in. Any help would be appreciated!!! My husband and I previously went to a couple of different locations but they didn’t have the particular gun I wanted. I called this location before making the drive and when we got there my husband asked for the gun as I was consolidating my infant. Gary who claims to be a manager, never asked him for his ID prior to handling the gun. In the other locations they asked before we handled any gun. He said he didn’t ask my husband for his ID because he approached him as capable of buying the gun but when we told him the gun was for me so I was purchasing the gun under my name, he said he couldn’t sell me the gun. My husband would have to purchase it under his name and gift to me if he wished to. Austin, who made a review 5 months ago stated he couldn’t buy the gun to gift to his sister after waiting 1 1/2 hr. So which is it? Gary was very unprofessional and rude. He first makes you wait forever and then approaches you as if he’s forced to because there is a line to then tell you he can’t sell you the firearm.
