We gave Patty Cakes two tries. We love finding Italian pastry shops and love the one In Rocky Hill by Panera Bread can't think of the name right now. Anyways; the first time was a weekday around 3pm. We've never been so didn't know what to expect. They had a huge selection of cookies, pastries, cake slices, cupcakes etc. They also had some pizzas sitting on the counter and a menu with some breakfast and lunch sandwiches. This is where we ran into the 1st issue. "The grill closes at 2:30." So hubs settled for a bagel "the toaster is off and takes 10 minutes to heat up." So we just got some cookies (approx 8) a slice of cake and a mini pie and $22 later were on our way. Problem #2 was when the very nice younger girl informed me that the cookies that I wanted with the cherry in the middle were still cold from the freezer cause they "were just stocked." This was honestly kind of shocking to me. I work at Stop and Shop and not even our bakery stuff is frozen. I just thought that was crazy because on their website they proudly proclaim that "every product is made to order with the most fresh ingredients." That is clearly false. Regardless the cookies were hit or miss our favorite being , you guessed it; the frozen cherry one. The carrot cake slice we got was average. The mini pie was really dissapointing. The crust was severely lacking some salt and the filling was barely sweet. Despite all of this we tried again. We came on a Monday at 2pm. Patty herself was there and to say that she lacked customer service skills is an understatement. She was not friendly in the slightest. She rushed us through our order and didn't even thank us. We got a few cookies again 8 to be exact (pictured) and it was $11.90. which is just greed in my opinion. We were able to get grinders this time a steak and cheese and an italian. The Italian was decent. Could have used some oil and vinegar or something. The steak and cheese was a fail. No seasoning at all, the meat was flabby and gross looking. Didn't look grilled looked steamed. Just not a proper technique. Our total this time was $29.80 We again felt robbed and oddly the cookies were better half frozen. There are much better (and more affordable) bakeries in the area. Places that for sure don't freeze products and pretend that they are fresh. Also there were the same exact packaged cookies from the second time we went which was 3 weeks in between. Cookies from St Patrick's day, Easter etc. So definitely don't buy those. Maybe it's just a good breakfast spot. We won't be going back...
Read moreI had emailed to see if they could do a birthday cake for my son. I added a picture with the email. I got a call back the next day saying they could do it. The picture was a light blue butter cream cake that had ombred to a darker blue. With a sponge bob fondant figure on top. It was going to be $30 each figure so I said I will put my own topping on, but I wanted it to look exactly like the picture. I asked if she could do seaweed and coral on the sidesin fondant. She said yes but it would be extra. So I said just do seaweed and in buttercream. She asked what flavor I wanted and I said vanilla. It took me a min to figure which flavor cake I wanted and she seemed agitated. Like figure it out. So when going over the cake I said so it's going to look like the picture with seaweed on the sides? She said well not the same color. So I was confused. She said it's going to be coral. I told her that when I said coral it was like coral reef. I never said color. Which is an easy confusion, but she seemed annoyed like it was my fault. So I went over every detail , she never told me where to pick up. Just to pickup before 2. Which the party was at 2. So the day before the party I went to the website to call to make sure I could pick it up in the morning. I called and this lady answered. I asked about my order, she said she doesn't see it call the other bakery to make sure they had my order. I called the other number on the website. This lady answered and I I told her what the other lady said. She was very rude. She said I can't see any of the orders you'll have to call the other place. She didn't want to listen. I told her I called the other place first. I kept trying to ask her if she could check to see if she has my cake. Everytime I would start talking and cut me off and try to hang up on me. So rude!! I was just annoyed. So finally I went into my call log on my phone, to make sure I called the right bakery. I did, called the number on my phone. This man answers, finally someone asked me my name and saw that my cake was there and I could pick it up when I needed the next day. I picked it up the next day and it was just so so. It wasn't a hard cake to make and it wasn't right. It was just a light blue cake wit a darker blue thin strips at the bottom. A far cry from the picture. So after all of that very frustrating. The cake tastes very good but after the customer service. I will be choosing a different bakery next time. I never right reviews but you can't fix it if no one...
Read moreAfter speaking on the phone about 2 cakes I needed for a birthday party (one plain cake with a runway for planes on it, and one cake shaped like a plane), they asked that I come in so I get "exactly what I want". When I went in for a consultation, the girl who helped was very nice, assuring me that they can do the cakes how I want. We discussed design, toppings, fillings, etc., and I was given an estimate of $30 for the plain cake and $50 for the shaped cake. I left a few toy planes for the plain cake and was on my way (after giving a $50 deposit), being told I will get a call the next day to confirm the price. I did not receive a call the next day, so I called back. Patty goes on to tell me that the price has gone up to $70 for the plain cake (to feed about 20 people), and $150 for the shaped cake (to feed 15). I told her no way and that is ridiculous, so I had to go back there to retrieve my deposit and my son's toy planes. When asked if it is their normal business practice to give an estimate, take money as a deposit, then increase the price 2-3 times, Patty had no response except, "You're design is intricate. Fondant is expensive." I asked for NOT fondant, and asked her why she has people working and taking orders and giving estimates to customers who apparently have no clue what they are talking about, and she just goes back to the "intricate design". I wonder if I would have gotten my deposit back if I was the one to change my mind (DOUBT IT!!) She offered nothing as a peace offering. A rectangle with a runway on it? A cake shaped like a plane? If these are difficult for her, she better get out of the cake business. I would call a wedding cake intricate, not a cake for a 5 year old's birthday. Stop and shop will be making my rectangular cake with the same design Patti was going to do for about $40 (and will feed more people). I will be making the plane shaped cake for a grand total of $7. Look online for design ideas and templates, but STAY AWAY FROM PATTY CAKES!!!!!!! Don't waste your time...
